Publisher's Summary

The sequel to Heart of the Fae, where Beauty and the Beast meets Irish mythology

Once upon a time....

Heartache dogs the steps of Sorcha of Ui Neill. Although she is home with her family, she is unable to shake the memories of her time in Hy-brasil. She heals with a heavy heart, tells stories with melancholy words, and cannot forget the magic of the Otherworld. When an opportunity arises to return to her beloved Fae Prince, she makes a questionable deal. Dark magic, druidic curses, and a witch open a portal and send her tumbling into the middle of a war she must end for the sake of all who dwell in the Otherworld.

Saving the faeries will not be easy when she has become a woman they fear.

The once-banished king battles his way through the Otherworld, freeing the Lesser Fae with each swing of his sword. Each attack turns Eamonn into something far more beastly than before. Geodes multiply and hinder his movements, harden his heart, and crystalize his resolve.

Together, they face the King of the Seelie Fae and his golden army to end the war that will change the fate of the Otherworld forever.

Absolutely best read of the Summer!

Emma Hamm has done such an amazing job with wrapping up this amazing retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The character development is perfection. I feel like I truly know the characters inside and out. Their journey in the book is a bit terrifying in the best possible way. I definitely shed some tears and was on the edge of my seat. I truly was transported into Sorcha and Eamonn's world. They both are such strong characters but I love how powerful and strong willed Sorcha is instead of just being a timid after thought to the beast of a man Eamonn. The emotions are intense because you are right there with the characters in this journey. This is not the predictable retelling of a Disney classic! It's super exciting and unpredictable. This is simply thrilling and one of my favorite reads of the summer and probably the year! I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy, mystery, romance, strong characters, and wants to be transported to the Otherworld!
The narrator is the first I have come across that I think actually adds to the story. Don't get me wrong I love a lot of narrators but this was a match made in heaven. Her accent and voice for characters really added to the enjoyment and keeping the listener wrapped up in the story! I hope she narrates the rest of the Otherworld series.

Very happy to accidentally stumble upon this book.

I had no idea what this book was about and have never heard anything from this author either. i was pleasantly surprised with what i got. The first book in the series did a really good job of setting up the world with out being too much about world building.

I'm excited for the next one

Awesome

This book is so much better than the last. The first two were great, but this one ended this series with an awesome ending.
The narrator did an excellent job, her accent perfect. She was clear and expressive. Great choice.

GREAT FOLLOW-UP STORY!

What a great follow-up to the first book, I am in love with this series! This story is such a fun fantasy. The narration was superb and gave that extra flair to the story. It will keep you entertained. This author does a great job with her character builds and plot, keep up the good work! I read the first book (Heart of the Fae) by this author and will be reading the other books in this series as soon as I can (can't wait). Read book one first!!!

There is sooooo much to like about the second book in this series but do yourself a favor and listen to book one first. This book picks up right where book one ends and is unapologetic about it!

I will get to all that is freakin' fantastic about this listen but I need to mention the one thing that I did not like. Sorcha is such a tool in this listen. She was smart and feisty in book one and I applauded every obstacle she overcame. In this book, she was a hard-headed, know-it-all, and was single-handedly the reason why I threw my phone across the room. Twice.

Okay, now the good stuff.

This story was excellent. I mean, in every definition of the word, excellent!! Sorcha and Eamon were the stuff of legends. Their love, their journey, their struggle, was so special that even though this was pure fantasy, it was totally relatable.

I spent nearly eleven hours in this world and wanted more. There was a good versus evil theme but the lines blurred which kept the story flowing, and the tension high, and I was never quite sure what would happen next. I love that in a listen.

The narrator was off-the-charts good! I was constantly amazed that this book was performed by only one narrator. Siobhan Waring was practically schizophrenic in the people she brought to life. She was, in a word, amazing.

It's almost Christmas and I've been good so I truly hope there will be a third book.

Satisfying end

This is only the end for Sorcha and Eamon, as the series continues with other couples.

I enjoyed this story, even though sometimes I could Sorcha’s passive ways to be a bit annoying. The way the story ended could have happened a lot sooner if she would have helped Eamon instead of the constant battle for peaceful talks.

But overall I enjoyed how the story played out and I’m so glad I finally listened to this story.

Wonderful conclusion to Eamoon and Sorcha

Nice finish of this story.

Surprises, sadness, and too much impulsiveness for Sorcha.

Some sex, but not too explicit, which is much appreciated. I’m not looking for exotica books.
Just Romance and fantasy.

So many twists!

The narrator is incredibly talented, if you’ve read the first book you’re well aware of that fact.

Language: the FBomb is dropped a few times.(PG13)
Sexual content: essentially this is a romance novel-level in description and should be read by those over 18.(R)
Violence: there’s more war and gore than the first book and appropriately so (PG13)
Story: this book was more than I anticipated after the first novel. So many twists I didn’t see coming, the heartbreak, war, loss and everything in between will have you yelling in frustration or fanatic-like support as things unfold. If you enjoyed the first book, you will be blown away by this one.

Since Heart of the Fae and Veins of Magic form a duology, neither standing alone, I'm going to write a single review encompassing both. But one of the main takeaway potential readers should understand is this point that they need both books for a complete story.

I really enjoyed this, both the story and the narration. I really like that Hamm's fae are old school scary fae, her female characters are strong and full of agency, and her male ones aren't afraid to show need. I especially appreciated that it was Sorcha who took the lead in most sexual situations.

My only complaint here is how very gendered everything is. While I appreciate that Hamm's goal was to emphasize that both a king and a queen are necessary, neither an accouterment to the other. (A pleasant change from most stories that center a king and make the queen little more than an accessory or political pawn.) But the book leans hard into women being soft and kind and caring and men being violent, rough and in need of tempering. True, Sorcha had to go against that in the course of the story but it was still a strong theme in the book. (As was how much bigger he was than her, another classic gendering technique.)

All in all, however, I can't wait to dive into more of Hamm's writing and Waring's narration.

Note: I received an Audible code for a copy of this book. I chose to listen and review it.

Emotional Perfection

This is the concluding part of Sorcha and Eamonn's story which started in the Heart of the Fae story which is book 1 of the Otherworld series. I loved that and I am happy to report that this book had the WOW factor just as much as the first one did. Again the story was absolutely awesome and the narration of it was perfection! I actually can't get over just what a marvellous narrator Siobhan Waring is. Most female narrators that I have listened to do a fairly good job at voicing the male characters, but Siobhan actually makes you think you ARE listening to a male. The characters she portrays go from young lads then to girls, to men and women, to gnomes, pixies, selkies, back and fore she tells the story changing her voice and each time she portrays them perfectly. I could listen to her reading all day!

In this story, it was time for Eammon to take back his throne and win back the hearts of his people. To do so put his and Sorcha's life very much in danger. Did they have any chance of winning, would they end up separated by death, how much bloodshed would there be? I am not saying a thing, you will have to read or listen to the story to find out, but obviously you need to read/listen to Heart of the Fae first. That book and this one were the height of fantastic adventure and romance with magic, good versus evil, and I was kept absolutely captivated from beginning to end. I cried happy and sad tears and positively sobbed during parts of the story. It was a good job I was listening to it rather than trying to read it, I wouldn't have been able to see through my tears.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book, this series, it's author and narrator!

Beauty and the Beast meets Irish Myths Perfectly

This is the second part of the Otherworld Duology, and I love it. I don't know how to explain this book other than "Beauty and the Beast meet Irish Mythology," Belle is a red-haired Druid who is one of the few who still believe and worship the Fae when almost everyone else has forgotten.

Sorcha and Eamonn are a beautiful couple who I can't help but fangirl over. Sorcha goes back to Eamonn because she wants to and because he'd be completely lost without her, in that she's his voice of reason. I hope Emma Hamm write more stories about this pair because honestly, I would love to know what else happens in this world, her writing is lovely and enchanting.
