Publisher's summary

“A fast-paced adventure combined with an engrossing mystery, all set in a unique and original fantasy world. I can't wait to find out what happens next!” (Martha Wells, Hugo-award winning author)

In this sequel to For the Killing of Kings, Howard Andrew Jones returns to the Nine Realms of the Dendressi in Upon the Flight of the Queen to continue this imaginative and fun epic fantasy trilogy.

While the savage Naor clans ready to march on the heart of the Five Realms, Rylin Corimel infiltrates the highest of the enemy ranks to learn their secrets and free hundreds of doomed prisoners. His ailing mentor Varama leads the Altenerai corps in a series of strikes to cripple the Naor. Kyrkenall, Elenai, and the kobalin Ortok ride for the storm-wracked shifting lands to rekindle the alliance with the winged lizards known as ko’aye, the only possible counter to the terrible Naor dragons. Meanwhile, the queen is delving further and deeper into the magic of the mysterious hearthstones, in a frantic attempt to save the realms that just might doom them all.

Praised for his ability to write modern epic fantasy that engrosses and entertains, Howard Andrews Jones delivers a sequel that expands the amazing world, relationships, and adventure that he introduced in the first book of this series.

Just as awesome as book 1!

Book 2 of this series was just as wonderful a read as the first. We lost many good characters in this war but that is what war is about, death. I am very excited for book 3 since the Queen will need to be dealt with and will they find the other trapped altin?. A resurrected goddess of pure energy sounds very dangerous for the living so will the queen succeed? My only regret is I didnt wait for all 3 books to be out first before beginning the read. I like to read them straight thru so that the story is crisp in my mind but hey this was too good to wait.

HAJ!

Howard is one of my favorite authors. I love his work. He comes up with so many unique and interesting situations for compelling characters to experience, all with a rising tension and enough worldbuilding to bring intrigue to the background threat of war, and ensuing battles. Bravo. Thank you for bringing sword and sorcery to a new generation.

Lori Prince. You are a great reader. Keep it up. But if I never hear that one character... that sounds like he is getting his dentistry worked on while speaking... again it will be too soon. Every character has a unique voice. Even the male characters are pretty well done. Some of them sound a bit like groaning teenage boys, but overall well done. I hate to be so mean about that one character but it was disastrous. I don't even know the name because I cringed too hard as I tried to skip through. Hope it wasn't that important! Apart from that it is amazing.

This second story has solidified everything I was enjoying about the first and more. The first book had the misfortune of creating a world and pushing a story, which makes it harder to fully embrace and enjoy. Now that we know how the Altenerai, magic, world and opposing forces work, and all the players involved, it's easier to jump right in and enjoy the story, and the great action. I think Howard has an amazing imagination and builds wonderful male and female characters, even with such a big cast I feel everyone is given ample attention. I wish this series was more popular. I will spread the word to everyone I know, as I loved it. Heroic Fantasy, honorable characters, and a deadly world full of treacherous foes. It definitely homages its inspirations. Can't wait to get to the next!

An Action-Packed Thrill Ride!

Mr. Jones picks up right where he left off with his excellent "For the Killing of Kings" and cranks the action up to eleven. This series has been a refreshing take on a genre obsessed with putting out gigantic tomes that could benefit from some significant edits.

The action here is heart-pounding and quick. The downtime is filled with interesting bits of lore and effective humor. I highly recommend this series.

Fresh imaginative fantasy world, timeless themes

Couldn't put it down. Well written and well narrated. The world building was excellent. The author imagined a unique fantasy world with compelling characters and an intriguing approach to how magic works in their world. The islands of stable reality separated by seas of shifting unstable unreality makes for a world that lets the imagination roam. I wish this becomes a movie some day.
