“Remarkable...Scott Lynch’s first novel, The Lies of Locke Lamora, exports the suspense and wit of a cleverly constructed crime caper into an exotic realm of fantasy, and the result is engagingly entertaining.” (The Times, London)

An orphan’s life is harsh - and often short - in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges death and slavery, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentleman Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly. Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game - or die trying.

Praise for The Lies of Locke Lamora

“Fresh, original, and engrossing...gorgeously realized.” (George R. R. Martin)

“Right now, in the full flush of a second reading, I think The Lies of Locke Lamora is probably in my top ten favorite books ever. Maybe my top five. If you haven’t read it, you should. If you have read it, you should probably read it again.” (Patrick Rothfuss, New York Times best-selling author of The Name of the Wind)

“High-octane fantasy...a great swashbuckling yarn of a novel.” (Richard Morgan)

Reseñas de la Crítica

“A unique fantasy milieu peopled by absorbing, colorful characters...Locke’s wit and audacity endear him to victims and bystanders alike.” (The Seattle Times)

“A true genre bender, at home on almost any kind of fiction shelf...Lynch immediately establishes himself as a gifted and fearless storyteller, unafraid of comparisons to Silverberg and Jordan, not to mention David Liss and even Dickens.” (Booklist, starred review)

This is such a unique story and so well told in the beginning I thought I was listen to Johnny Depp from pirates of the Caribbean the accent is so great. The other thing I really enjoyed is that it is a long story for hours and hours of enjoyment.

Superb story and narration

At first I was distracted by the dramatic narration, but grew to enjoy it. Now that I’ve finished listening, I can’t imagine a different rendition.

Coming from reading the Stormlight Archives and Kingkiller Chronicles, I appreciated a story that wasn’t so steeped in deep magic systems. The “light” fantasy approach was more akin to early GOT books, but more joyful. The fantasy elements exist in the background, but the plotting and scheming of the main characters are the true focus.

The story did suffer from some pacing issues, but I did appreciate the narrative structure with interludes that helped build character development. I fell in love with the colorful and unique world based on renaissance Venice/Italy, as well as the main characters. Overall, it was a great listen, and I will definitely be moving on to the second book.

Unique and Colorful Fantasy World

I loved this book and can't wait to finish the series. It's like Oliver Twist set in a fully-realized fantasy world, but so much more than that.

The book starts off very strong, building the character and his mindset from a very young age. This helps the reader understand his quick thinking and actions

Gritty, harsh, real, every story but hit hard and didn’t hold the brutality back. Brilliant characters and twists and turns kept me interested the whole book.

Fantastic
