Decisions, Decisions

This young adult has to grow up fast making some hard decisions. I like the way she did this, no whining just faced them and went on.
I so thoroughly enjoyed the narrator, she brought the characters out with maturity, no baby voices. Showing them to be intelligent and capable.
This audio was given to me free, and I voluntarily gave this review.

Interesting Reaper Story

I really loved this book, it had all the elements of a fantastic YA fantasy. Jo and Victoria are sisters who couldn’t be more different. When their mother dies, and they are forced to face the truth of their origins, they are brought into a world they never would’ve guessed existed. Within the world, they each have their own roles, one as a Reaper and one as a Guardian.

Jo was my favorite character. She was feisty and strong. She did not back down even when other characters did.

The thing that bothered me about this book though was the two six month jumps within the story. The first is when Jo is first brought into the Reaper world and the second is just after she begins reaping. I feel as if a lot of the story is lost for these jumps. These time periods would’ve shown some real character development and would’ve helped the reader to divulge into this book’s world more thoroughly. With the time skip, I felt as if there was a bit of an info dump to explain it all, and it’s a shame because the book has so much going for it.

Great listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The author did a great job building the world and characters. I appreciate that even though the heroine is young and has had a lot thrown at her, she remains mature and focused on what needs to be done without a lot of whining and self pity.

The narrators were perfect and really brought the characters to life!

I received this audiobook for free at my request and left this review voluntarily.

Intriguing premise

I found the premise really intriguing, and enjoyed much of the plot, but I was frustrated by the main character’s need to constantly mention what an outsider she’d always been and even more frustrated by the lack of explanation of the magic system and it’s rules. Too many things were explained with “it’s magic” which made the worldbuilding feel really incomplete.

I enjoyed the female narrator overall, but her British? accent didn’t sound right which always pulled me out of the story. I enjoyed the male narrator more but he generally had a line at the end of the chapter and that was it.

A good listen

This was my first book from A.D. Trosper and I was pleasantly surprised. A new take on the mythos of the Morgane, heaven and hell. I have many questions yet not answered but I’m looking forward to seeing them unveiled in the next two books. Strong characters and a emotional roller coaster.

It is an interesting take on the angelic realms

There are some positives and negatives. I have to admit that initially as I was listening to the story I was unsure about the book. The fact that the main character and her sister just accept that they are these hybrid beings and allow themselves to be ushered away from each other is a bit much. They have their "respective" new lives with neither of them putting up any kind of resistance. I was thrown off by the random quotes at the end of every chapter, and I still don't know its point. The narrator was pretty good, even though there were several parts where she sounds genuinely bored. The positives for the book is that the writing is done well. I greatly appreciate that she skipped past all the training and learning when Jo was being trained to become a reaper. She references her classes sometimes and to me, that is so much better than when we spend over half a book just on their first week of training. There are some twists and turns in the book, that only add to the depth and intrigue. By the end of the book, I was hooked and ready to start the next one. No matter what, I do not think that you will regret reading this series. I know that I will listen to this book again, and still enjoy it. I hope that you enjoy it too.

more

I will start off say I feel like this book went by to fast even with this being almost 9 hours. I love long books that go fast be that tells my I really got in to the book. I feel Jo. I feel like I can relate to Jo sometimes. One because I am always telling people I am fine. And when this book came to an end all I could do is think no why don't I have the next book yet. I need to know what is going next.

An interesting read...

Overall, this was an ok enough book for me. I enjoyed some parts of it and other parts I was just bored. I listened to the audiobook for this one and the narrator did a very good job!

The book had a good start and showed potential. Until, I started losing focus and interest in it. At least, for me. Jo and her sister lost their mom and they soooon find out about their otherness and this entire new world. They find out they are reapers and that their absentee father was an angel. Thus, begins their new journey into this world. Although, we barely get to "see" her sister.

For me, details are off about what is explained and what is not. Parts I found tedious, were unnecessary details about food - as in what exactly Jo was eating down to the alfredo fettuccini or the every.single.appetizers they ordered. But, one line was used to explaining about they received training and voila a year has passed. I would have liked to "see" some of it as in what badassery training she was received. I honestly did not care about the food she ate.

Another thing I found different in this was the attempt to be having dual point of view but it really wasn't. Randomly, I would get Caius's one liners at the end of Jo's scene. It would appear like Caius was there/invisible with his one liner input on her scene/decision but he truly wasn't as they were on two separate sides (demon). So I wasn't sure what the point of it was. It felt random to me. Although, the narrator Zachary had an amazing Caius voice, lol.

By the end of it all, I was more curious about and ready to finish the book vs. having a connection with the characters. There is no insta-love which is great. But there is also not enough chemistry, for me, between characters. Maybe, book 2 brings them together better with better dialogue. That's just my opinion.

What a pleasant surprise 💜💜💜💜💜

What a pleasant surprise this book was 💜💜💜💜. It was on my TBL for some time now 😣 but I am glad I got to it.

We follow Jo as she discovers her heritage, new world, now family and... enemies. She is a mixed child that should not be and is therefore hinted by those who want to erase her existence. She finds an unexpected ally into one of the most powerful demonborn, Caius. Together, they are sent into a mission and are magically bonded so as to have more chances at completing their task. And who says bond, say feelings that only complicate things.
I really enjoyed this story because I usually look for the romance development in my reads and everything is supposed to help it grow. Yet in this book, I found myself entertained by the plot itself and the evolution of Jo’s character.
When I saw the two narrators, I was expecting a classic dual pov but I loved that Caius only appears at the end of each chapter. He has very few and yet powerful lines each time. You see the story develops through his lenses. You see his feelings morph into something more romantic and I loved it!

I also love the world building and how it was presented. It felt like being on a guided tour. I love the didactic aspect of it but I wish it was peppered through the story.

And what is not to love about the diverse cast and the easy banter between the “Children” !! James is a favorite of mine and I will dispute a place in his heart to Jo 🙂
I can’t wait to jump into book 2 and hopefully book 3 to know what will happen to Jo and Caius!

Loved it!

Wow this book really caught my attention. I was given a free copy for an honest review and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I am really impressed by both the story and the narration. Narrators often irritate me but this was done really well and I wasn't distracted from the storyline once, plus I enjoyed the fact there was a male narrator for the brief male perspective at the end of each chapter.
The story really pulled me in and kept me listening. The MC's discovery of the new world, new role and new self are really well written and the developing relationship throughout the book keeps you on your toes. I was sad it ended!

Unique and imaginative

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.

This is a really unique and imaginative concept that grabs you straight away. I actually didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did but the more I listened and you hear the sassy strong Jo hearing about just how different life is from what she thought to what is truth you grow to appreciate how much depth this character has. Caius had his single line at the end of each chapter which I thought would drive me bonkers but in the end I sort of craved to hear his thoughts on the current situation even if it was just three words. Again his character is incredible and perfect for this world and plot. I loved the use to reapers in this book as they are very rarely used I feel and it worked so well with this storyline. I definitely look forward to more!

So good

I received this book free for an honest review.

Jo didn’t know anything about her father until the day her Mother was buried then someone tried to kill her and Caius a powerful Demon hybrid saved her . She was plunged into a world she never knew existed and told her Father was an angel she was sent to be a reaper but things take another twist when both sides try to kill her. I loved this book and gave bought book 2 which I am listening to now. The narraors are perfect but wish Zachary had voiced more of Caius.

Wow! Angels, Demons, Reapers and more

This audiobook was outstanding. The way AD Trosper was able to pull me in and keep me intrigued the entire journey was amazing. I was exhausted when I came to the end and immediately purchased book 2 Betrayed. I requested this book in exchange for a honest review and I and ecstatic that I did. The heroine Jo/Josephine did not know her full heritage, even though she was told she was a reaper after her mother's death. Chaos/Kais? is the demon borned Hero that was always honest with her, protective of her, and fought with her. They have been sent on a mission to find out why the lost souls were disappearing. This story resonated with me because if these 2 sides could work together, with all of their differences, why can't we ? The story was fast pace, exciting, detailed with the author's creativity with a touch of romance. I can't wait to hear book 2. The narrators Suzanne T Fortin was excellent and she narrated the majority of the book. Zachary Johnson narrated Chaos thoughts with his dark smoky voice and was a fantastic contrast. Loved loved loved

Excellent Narrator. Brilliant story. Loved it

Suzanne T Fortin is a brilliant narrator. Usually it take me a couple of chapters to settle with a narrator I have never listened to before, but not her. I relaxed into the book straight away and she did an excellent job with all the characters. The one bad point is there was nowhere near enough of Zachary Johnson....I could have listened to a lot more of him.

I really, really enjoyed the story, it's a great idea and executed beautifully. The world is fabulous and the characters are great. I loved watching how Jo reacted to everything and how she changed throughout the book. And woaaaah Caius, loved him so much. I'm looking forward to the next book....
