Publisher's Summary

Jo’s birthright may be her death sentence.

Being blood-bound to Caius, a powerful and rather irritating demonborn, was never on my bucket list. Of course, neither was being a reaper or learning I’m not fully human.

In fact, there are a lot things going on in my life now that weren’t on that list - like almost having my immortal life cut short or finding out my unusual heritage may get me killed.

As if that wasn’t enough, it seems like everyone around me is either keeping secrets or wants to see me dead. Except Caius, who isn’t what I expected. He’s moody, annoying, dangerous, and hotter than hell. He’s supposed to be my enemy. Yet, he saved my life and told me the truth when no one else would. And now...I think I feel more for him than I should.

Decisions, Decisions

This young adult has to grow up fast making some hard decisions. I like the way she did this, no whining just faced them and went on.
I so thoroughly enjoyed the narrator, she brought the characters out with maturity, no baby voices. Showing them to be intelligent and capable.

Interesting Reaper Story

I really loved this book, it had all the elements of a fantastic YA fantasy. Jo and Victoria are sisters who couldn’t be more different. When their mother dies, and they are forced to face the truth of their origins, they are brought into a world they never would’ve guessed existed. Within the world, they each have their own roles, one as a Reaper and one as a Guardian.

Jo was my favorite character. She was feisty and strong. She did not back down even when other characters did.

The thing that bothered me about this book though was the two six month jumps within the story. The first is when Jo is first brought into the Reaper world and the second is just after she begins reaping. I feel as if a lot of the story is lost for these jumps. These time periods would’ve shown some real character development and would’ve helped the reader to divulge into this book’s world more thoroughly. With the time skip, I felt as if there was a bit of an info dump to explain it all, and it’s a shame because the book has so much going for it.

Paranormal

This book has it all. Epic big loss, new friends, new job, new life, new enemies and an adventure that’s just getting started. Demons, angels, immortals and humans are all in this book. Definitely different look at reapers and how they can to be.

Ohh loved this start on a YA paranormal thriller

I loved this book and can’t wait to get into the rest of this series. It hooked me from the start and I was shocked when it ended and want to dig into the rest in the series. Even if I have to read the book rather than listen to the audiobook, whatever is available I will be getting ASAP.

I feel bonded to both Jo and Caius, and absolutely loved Suzanne’s narration of all the characters. It was a surprise to hear the voice of Caius briefly at the end of each chapter and hear Zachary’s voice, these were brief but helped develop a clear picture in my head of Caius’ character. I’m hoping for more of Caius in the rest of the series. I’m so excited to see where they go next.

I’m off to see where I can get more of this story, bravo A.D. Trosper it’s a gem 💎

A WELL-DONE STORY

I loved the narrator’s inflections and the story was one of which I haven’t read much of its genre. I was intrigued and wanted to hear a little more from Caius than the few sentences uttered at the end of each chapter. The story is a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to get to the next story. I also have found that I like reading along with the audio. It gives me a much better picture of the characters.

Great listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The author did a great job building the world and characters. I appreciate that even though the heroine is young and has had a lot thrown at her, she remains mature and focused on what needs to be done without a lot of whining and self pity.

The narrators were perfect and really brought the characters to life!

excellent beginning

This was a very good listen with excellent narration. The only thing I didn't like was that it ended in a cliff hanger.

A fantastic mix of various mythologies

It's a book that takes elements from different religious systems and mixes them together to create a fantastic, gripping, fast-paced story full of action and emotions:)

It starts a bit slow, with Jo's mother dying of cancer - and that's where we get the first glimpse of the world Jo is going to live in: she sees the Reapers who have come to help her mother cross the River, something she shouldn't be able to do at all - if she's human. A few moments later, in the next chapter, we witness the first battle between Reapers and demons, and Jo and her sister are suddenly grabbed from their home and thrown into the world of the supernatural - and from then on it's almost non-stop action, with the mystery behind Jo's origins and reasons why she's so special unveiled here and there almost unwillingly... which is a great way to propel the reader/listener to go on as we just die to find out why everyone is so secretive about her - and why almost everyone wants to kill her.

As I said, the book is really fast-paced, but there's also space for a full range of emotions, from anger through friendship to love... All the characters are strong personalities, with their agendas, their pasts (also quite mysterious in most cases), and there are a lot of secrets for us to discover on the way to the final chapter - which is a cliffhanger, unfortunately... :) But as the book has a kind of semi-closure, I will not reduce the star-rating for it (this time:)).

Narration by Ms Fortin is great - emotions are clear and convincigly conveyed, differentiation of voices good and enough acting added to carry us on with the story. Mr Johnson does not have much to read as Caius, but the short sentences he does read in a way convey the demon's personality, too, so I like it a lot.

I really enjoyed this audiobook...

A marvelous story of a young girl who discovers that she is not fully human and that very fact may be the death of her.

I was given this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review and I am very pleased to have had the honor. I love when an author has the ability to create worlds that make you feels as though you can walk right or brtter yet when that world is connected to th one we live in and is covered by a veil. A.D. Trosper does just that.

A well narrated book that tells the story of Jo, a young reaper who finds that there a many secrets kept from her by those she trusts and the only one willy to tell her the truth is the one who is suppose to be her enemy.

Excellent Narrator. Brilliant story. Loved it

Suzanne T Fortin is a brilliant narrator. Usually it take me a couple of chapters to settle with a narrator I have never listened to before, but not her. I relaxed into the book straight away and she did an excellent job with all the characters. The one bad point is there was nowhere near enough of Zachary Johnson....I could have listened to a lot more of him.

I really, really enjoyed the story, it's a great idea and executed beautifully. The world is fabulous and the characters are great. I loved watching how Jo reacted to everything and how she changed throughout the book. And woaaaah Caius, loved him so much. I'm looking forward to the next book....
