Publisher's Summary

Unexpected Places is the personal story of gospel singer Anthony Evans, son of well-known pastor Tony Evans and brother of author Priscilla Shirer. In this intimate and moving memoir, Anthony shares the details of his struggles with depression and doubt and encourages listeners with the unique story of his search for purpose and identity.

From growing up duty-bound to his name, to his time as a finalist and then talent producer on The Voice, Anthony explores the pressures he experienced as a child and as a young man in Hollywood. He describes the journey to his renewed faith in God and exposes the vast differences between what the world teaches us to value and how God values us. Anthony examines what his parents did right in raising him but also describes how they unknowingly missed his pain. Finally, he reveals how God orchestrated his plan to grow Anthony into a man who is in love with his life, his heritage, and his individual calling.

Anthony has learned to embrace the incredible beauty of his unique voice. In Unexpected Places, he invites listeners on their own journey to do the same.

Powerful, Honest & full of God's amazing GRACE!

What honesty and awesome life lessons that can transcend both sexes and all ages. Many favorites moments, great illustrations but the two that resonates: the admission of depression and willingness/openness that he needed help: counseling and medication. Then the first group session in which Anthony shares his story and the role playing. In dealing with his fears and problems on his own and His God and all of God's power in the background. Oh, but what a difference it made and does it make when he, Anthony, put GOD in front of his fears and problems!

Could not stop reading, Awesome story! Thanks again and a MUST READ for anyone!

Same page

It’s always encouraging when you read a book (or in my case listen) and the author is in a similar boat as you. It always feels good to know others have walked or are walking a similar path and offer hope. This book was that for me. Anthony unlike me has learned not to focus on the “what if’s” and “by now’s”. So encouraging for those looking for joy in there journey and confidence to press on and through. Loved it.

Wonderfully Surprising

This book was a quick read and it was good. Anthony's transparency is amazing. Wow. The authenticity will change lives. I'm shocked at myself...I decided to start listening to sermons again.

Transparent and Relatable

Anthony's transparency was so refreshing. I have a lot of friends who are "Preachers Kids" PK's and it was such a Blessing to hear a story from the child's perspective. Also hearing his dad apologize for not knowing and continuing to walk through life and allowing Anthony to find his purpose and passion. I too am a "Squirrel ". So it was icing on the cake to hear a squirrel tell the story and I followed it and never really thought of it as him having a squirrel moment. Thanks Anthony for sharing you heartache, heartbreak and healing.

Honest & Heartfelt

You can definitely relate, male or female. Seems as if he's still finding himself, but his honesty makes it a good read. However, it's a little sad sort of. He's still such a work in progress, that maybe he should have held off writing the book or maybe I was looking for a happy lesson learned in the end - like a major break through. However, I commend him for being transparent.
