Publisher's summary

Chilling secrets buried deep in wild bushland drive this thrilling new novel from best seller Anna Romer.

When an injured teenager goes missing at a remote bushland campground, local journalist Abby Bardot is determined to expose the area’s dark history. The girl bears a striking resemblance to the victims of three brutal murders that occurred 20 years ago, and Abby fears the killer is still on the loose.

But the newspaper Abby works for wants to suppress the story for fear it will scare off tourists to the struggling township. Haunted by her own turbulent memories, Abby is desperate to learn the truth and enlists the help of Tom Gabriel, a reclusive crime writer. At first resentful of Abby’s intrusion, Tom’s reluctance vanishes when they discover a hidden attic room in his house that shows evidence of imprisonment from half a century before.

As Abby and Tom sift through the attic room and discover its tragic history, they become convinced it holds the key to solving the bushland murders and finding the missing girl alive.

But their quest has drawn out a killer, someone with a shocking secret who will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried.

Beautifully written

A wonderful and thrilling ride. Gorgeous, descriptive, entertaining and well worth the credit. This was my first experience with this particular author but it will definitely not be my last. The narration is also outstanding. A well written book with an exceptional performance to bring this story to life. Beautiful.

Couldn't stop listening!

This is the 2nd book I've listened to buy this author and I have completely enjoyed (loved) both books. And the narrator is wonderful. I plan to continue to read all of Anna Romer's books and hope that Eloise Oxer continues to narrator them. This is a must listen to joy!!!

there she goes again...

Anna Romer never disappoints! Another soul-consuming, life-altering read from my favorite author! Together again, Anna breathes life into these intriguing and unabashedly human characters and Eloise gives them a voice. The dynamic duo, I say... able to bring the characters and their world to life, damn-near touchable, to the reader/listener! Simply put, Anna cannot write fast enough for me. Yes, one heart-wrenching, how the heck does she come up with this stuff, read per month would do nicely. Anna Romer's Book of the Month Club... I like it. And come to Cincinnati for a book signing one of these days already!

Fabulous!

This book gets you under its spell immediately. I listened to it every possible chance I got. Anna draws the reader in so quickly and holds you on the edge of your seat through all the twists and turns of this story. It's been a long time since a book captivated me like this one. The characters are so richly complex and all their stories are so compelling. Eloise Oxer could not have been better with the narration. It was just fabulous and I hate that I'm through with it but I will listen to it again in the future.
