A Good Read but Nothing Special

Enjoyed this second book but nothing out of the ordinary. Man tries to get to his daughter after the lights go out. She is on a plane that crashes and she is one of the few that survives. Story skips a lot but sometimes make you wonder how could that be? Dad gets attacked by an alligator and then just a couple of weeks later good as new. Not real sure and don't want to test this theory but I think most people would at least be limping a little for awhile. It takes very little time to get from city to city on foot then they get a couple of horses from the ranch.
Meantime daughter walks out of the swamp with two other travelers and manage to run into Dad in the same town due to connection by one of the travelers.
I liked the main character and it looks like Book three may be a spin -off. Might try that one.

Pike & Pierce WOW!!!!

I am new to Chris Pike and stumbled onto this series by following Kevins work. What a pleasant surprise. Pikes incredible painting of a picture brought to life by Pierce makes this a great listen of a very believable story line. Gotta go find book 3!!!

Predictable but entertaining!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Mmm, several other grid down survival series I would recommend before this one.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Kevin's performances are always an A+, no one better!

Any additional comments?

I've listened to almost all of these type series that are available in audio. This book was probably the most predictable one I've listened to. It was way to easy to figure out very early that Ryan was Holly & Cole's son, as well as just events along the journey. But the most aggravating aspect is the amount of time spent on humanizing Buster the dog. OMG, I thought I was going to have to fast forward in some places when the author just went overboard on personalizing the thought process of the dang dog! While overall entertaining, not one of my favorites. Mainly listened because of Kevin.

A+

No sophomore slump here. I enjoyed Unexpected World thoroughly. Uncertain world was better. The best series I have read since Zombie Fallout and the Iron Druid Chronicles. Chris Pike grabs the imagination and holds on tight.
Part of the story is written from the perspective of Buster, the dog. I was emotionally involved to the nth degree during those chapters. I was actually gripping my steering wheel and telling the narrator to hurry up. I knew what would eventually happen in regards to Buster early on--but the tension grew as I waited--reminded me of the tension I felt (and still feel) every time I watch the scene in The Abyss --if you've seen the movie you'll know what scene I'm referring to.
Chris Pike is my new favorite author--I eagerly anticipate his next installment.

An incredible survival story

Where the first book left you with more of a cliff-hanger, Uncertain World will leave you feeling more fulfilled. There will be at least one more EMP Survivor Series book, but if you wanted to quit now you could and you wouldn't feel like you were missing something.

Uncertain World takes place directly after Unexplained World, continuing the story of Dillon and his unrelenting attempts at finding his daughter and staying alive in this ever-changing world.

This story was just slightly better than the first one because I knew the characters and I felt like their stories were going to come to a conclusion (which is always exciting for me). The storytelling in Unexplained was good, but in Uncertain World it was almost perfect. Each line felt like it had a purpose.

The parts in this story that really hit home for me were the ones from the point of view of the dog. Good lord, I'm a dog person and some of them were overwhelmingly cute and others were so hard to take. Just an absolutely epic job by Pike.

Overall, Uncertain World will leave readers from the first story happy, while others who want to continue the story will still have the option for more... In early 2017.

I received this book for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Another book made even better by my favorite Narrator!

Great story! It was a little unbelievable that the world would be that small, but it's fiction, what do you do? Kevin Pierce did a fabulous job narrating, as always!

Cole has a long memory and a deep hatred...

Dillon Stockdale finally admitting to himself that his daughter is dead makes his way along with his dog Buster and Holly Hudson back to Holly’s ranch. Along the way they run into the usual variety of survivors both good and bad. Their main threat is the bounty Cole Castle has put on their heads. Cole has a long memory and a deep hatred for Holly and Dillon, not only helping Holly, but was the district attorney prosecuting him. Every bushwhacker in the area has their sights on them, dead or alive. Eventually Cole manages to get his hands on Cassie, Dillon’s daughter. Now it is up to Dillon to get his daughter back. Good story, containing background and detail that should have been in book one. Kevin Pierce is great as usual.
