Sir John Hawkwood has almost all that he needs. He is the most respected and feared mercenary leader in Italy but he is surrounded by those who would do him and his family harm. He faces betrayal from friend and foe alike. His constants are his company and the leaders who fight for him. Treading a tightrope between warring factions that include the Pope and the Lord of Milan, Sir John Hawkwood decides to make the White Company into a warband and he becomes a warlord.

Are these books sometimes repetitive? Yes they are, but the narration makes them entertaining just the same.
My 5th in the series.

Not only did the story change from the first couple of books, but it’s obvious that the author was thinking something and only wrote like part of it in the book. For example, the main character blows up at one of his closest and dearest friends out of nowhere and the audience is supposed to know why. But there is no context, no backstory, no plot to indicate what happened. The previous chapter everything was normal and then all of the sudden the character is being chastised.
I’m tired of wanting this series to be better and am so upset that I purchased each book.
If you’re reading this, pick up a better book, almost any book really. I’m only halfway through and I just keep getting frustrated with the story line, lack of plot, character progression, writing inaccuracies, and authors ability to make the reader care. Plain and simple, this series is awful!
It’s so bad!
