Publisher's Summary
Step aside Rambo, Sam Savage is in town!
For some men and women, the Vietnam War never ended....
Sky Marshal and former Army Ranger Sam Savage has just been handed his most dangerous assignment yet, and it has nothing to do with keeping a plane full of innocent people safe while cruising the friendly skies at 35,000 feet. This time, the sky marshal is on the trail of a New Viet Cong terrorist bent on wreaking havoc on a hotel full of American and Chinese businesspeople. Channy Linn is a new breed Viet Cong in that he’s not just leading a band of militant irregulars who are defending their home turf. They are instead a band of terrorists, a la Al Qaeda, bent on the violent destruction of anyone or anything that doesn’t follow their twisted ideology.
Along with his field asset, the beautiful but lethal Cindy, Sam will go on the hunt for Channy beginning in Bangkok, Thailand, making their way through Cambodia and finally into the jungles of Vietnam, where Sam will face one of the most terrifying ordeals of his life - being trapped inside the narrow underground tunnels of Cu Chi.
For listeners of Mark Dawson, Boyd Morrison, Lee Child, Russell Blake, and more, New York Times best-selling Thriller Award winning author Vincent Zandri invents yet another action/adventure character who most definitely should not be messed with. This novel promises to keep you glued to your seat for the entire journey.

Not my normal genre but I enjoyed it
This is not the usual type of book I read or listen to. I wasn't sure what to think at the very beginning but found myself drawn into the story. Sam was like a cat with 9 lives in his ability to get out of dire circumstances. This was an enjoyable action adventure story. The narrator did a good job . Sam is a Sky Marshall.has his eye on Chanty Linn, Who has been in US getting support for his terrorists organization and.Viet Nam. The man is small, slim, but an evil smile, like a cold blood murderer. The arrangements of a shared cab, the same hotel. His field asset is Agent Cindy, still beautiful The mission Sam is on turns deadly when the jungle has new trap doors, the snake pits, the foliage seems lethal. The three after him dressed as their forefathers did. Weapons are new. Careful to walk, so not to set off a mine field, he wants to get to Channy compound. Captured, will they get out, and will explaining need to be done. Once again the author has given us a detailed mission to follow,it is tense. To the end, another Sam adventure leaving us wanting more adventure.

Great Pulp Thriller!
Vincent Zandri may have created the character of Sam Savage as an Air Marshall, but this is 100% non-stop action. I loved how the author incorporated real places and events in the book Tunnel Rats. Those details really made the story that much more believable, and added to the imagery. This is one fast heart-pumping listen, that I could envision so much with. Andrew B. Wehrlen added to my enjoyment with his stellar performance. He gives the various characters distinguishable voices. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. I'm curious to hear if anything more develops of Sam and Cyndi's relationship.

Enjoyable escapism
Enjoyable escapist nonsense........CRAZEEEEEEE!
Fun, fast, frantic, far-fetched and (probably) forgetable. Which isn't to say I wasn't engaged and entertained while listening to another Audible offering.
We have Sam Savage, a sky marshal, out of his comfort zone and pro-active in seeking out a modern day VC terrorist leader. Plenty of banter, action and sex, as Savage gets close to his NVC target. There's the involvement of Cindy, either an alluring ally or a woman playing for the highest bidder, an attack, a chase, an escape - temporary, incarceration in the Cu Chi tunnel network, escape again, a bombing, and a reunion between main man Sam Savage and enemy agent Channy Linn.
It's a busy book. Sam's survival at various points of the novel defies belief, but it's the kind of book where you know the outcome before you start it, so pretty much anything goes. I quite liked the main character, his cheery attitude, his desire to do his job without ever going overboard into full-blown jingoism or patriotism, which sometimes blinds people to their own country's historic errors. He's skilled, adaptable, determined and quite good company for the duration of the book.
Fast-paced, action driven, not too much introspection though I did like Sam's inner monologue and the dynamics betwen him and Cindy and also his nemesis Channy. Decent narration which added to my enjoyment.
I'm tempted to look up New Viet Cong to see if they are actually an entity and a threat or just a figment of the author's imagination. I've never heard of them before and I'm intrigued. Maybe Zandri's book isn't quite as forgetable as I might once have thought, now I'm pondering elements of the set-up.
Vincent Zandri is a busy author with over fifty fiction works to his name. I have a few more on the pile, but not the two earlier Sam Savage offerings. I'm interested in reading more from him again, which is as good a recommendation to myself as I can give.

Savage is Awesome!
Sam Savage, sky marshal, hero and wiseass. Whilst gathering surveillance on a known terroist in Vietnam Sam ends up in the fight of his life. The writing is excellent and Andrew's narration really brings Sam to life. Warning there are scenes of extreme violence, so this book may not be for the squeamish.

Out-Rambos even Rambo.
No need to reprise a plot line as it is fully covered in the synopsis.
This thriller featuring Air Marshall Sam Savage (what a great name for an action hero) has him leaving his comfort zone of the air to turn into on-the-ground spook and warrior as he confronts a leader of the New Viet Cong. Plenty of explosive action as well as terrors of the more earthy kind. Scary stuff. All was very fittingly narrated by Andrew Wehrlen, whose quick action speech combined with a throwaway indolence, perfectly captured the tone of the book and the laid back attitude of Sam.
As always with Mr.Zandri's tales, this was well thought out and viscerally compelling. Edge of the seat stuff. My thanks to the rights holder of Tunnel Rats who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. Fast paced and visual, this takes readers to places they really won't want to go in their sleep. If you like action and excitement, this book is probably for you.
