Publisher's Summary

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling novel from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

'I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.'

Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. Fierce rivals for the emperor’s favour, and outspoken adversaries on Imperial affairs - including the Death Star project - the formidable pair seem unlikely partners for such a crucial mission. But the Emperor knows it’s not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there’s more behind his royal command than either man suspects.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, General Anakin Skywalker of the Galactic Republic and Commander Mitth’raw’nuruodo, officer of the Chiss Ascendancy, crossed paths for the first time. One on a desperate personal quest, the other with motives unknown...and undisclosed. But facing a gauntlet of dangers on a far-flung world, they forged an uneasy alliance - neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.

Now, thrust together once more, they find themselves bound again for the planet where they once fought side by side. There they will be doubly challenged - by a test of their allegiance to the Empire...and an enemy that threatens even their combined might.

A bit too much all over the place but good enough

A bit too much all over the place but good enough quality just wish it would be a bit more cohesive.

A very good audiobook!

Not quite as good as the previous book about Thrawn but still a lot to be learned and quite entertaining too. I hope the Thrawn Journal will reappear in the future books.

enjoyed it, but not as good as the first

I did enjoy this book, but it wasn't as good as the first. I missed Eli vanto in this, but I assume he will appear in the third book. I wish there was more Vader and thrawn and less of Skywalker and thrawn, but other people may like that more. overall a good book and we'll read by Marc Thompson.

Thrawn vol 2

Not quite as good as the first book. The split narrative jumping between the past and present made it feel a little less focused than the first.

Meh disappointing.

Loved the first one. and I usually love Anakin/ Vader stories but for some reason I just couldn't gel with this one. Thrawn is such a good character and if it wasn't for him then this would of been a dire book. narration was superb as ever though

Fun but weakest in the series

If you want review on the whole series, check my review of Thrawn: Treason, but this one will be shorter.

It's fun, but weaker than Thrawn and much weaker than Thrawn: Treason. That said, even the bad Zahn is better then any other SW writers and this is not bad Zahn. It's in the middle compared with first and last book in the series, but still very fun.

But the best thing is brilliant narration by Marc Thompson. He brought all characters to life with his voice acting skills and turned this book (all of his books, really) to fantastic radio drama.

I highly recommend all three books in the series.

No more double vision

A bit boring in parts. Enjoyed Anikin and Thrawn being together but to me Vader should always work alone and in complete command.

Timothy Zahn delivers again

Really good pace throughout the story and links to the previous interactions between Thrawn and Anakin Skywalker.

Great book, voices a huge distance from the movies

Great book, and the voice actor is very good, but some of the voices (Anakin, Vader, and Padme especially) are extremely different to the movies.
Otherwise, a great listen.
