Publisher's Summary

Don Lemon brings his vast audience and experience as a reporter and a Black man to today’s most urgent question: How can we end racism in America in our lifetimes?

The host of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon is more popular than ever. As America’s only Black prime-time anchor, Lemon and his daily monologues on racism and antiracism, on the failures of the Trump administration and of so many of our leaders, and on America’s systemic flaws speak for his millions of fans. Now, in an urgent, deeply personal, riveting plea, he tells us all how deep our problems lie, and what we can do to begin to fix them.

Beginning with a letter to one of his Black nephews, he proceeds with reporting and reflections on his slave ancestors, his upbringing in the shadows of segregation, and his adult confrontations with politicians, activists, and scholars. In doing so, Lemon offers a searing and poetic ultimatum to America. He visits the slave port where a direct ancestor was shackled and shipped to America. He recalls a slave uprising in Louisiana, just a few miles from his birthplace. And he takes us to the heart of the 2020 protests in New York City. As he writes to his young nephew: We must resist racism every single day. We must resist it with love.

The Fire is a Timeless Anecdote, Part II is needed.

An anecdote is a brief, revealing account of a person or an incident: "a story with a point," such as to communicate an abstract idea about a person, place, or thing through the concrete details of a short narrative or to characterize by delineating a specific quirk or trait. (Webster
Dictionary)

Don Lemon is an excellent communicator; however, if I was a white racist I wouldn't be influenced to change any of my views that were anti-black. I would still be a racist.

I think that the final chapter was the strongest. I was waiting for a blind spot in the story that may sway me to believe that “whites” as a group would leave understanding the main issues with blacks and a reason to want to be around them.

Colorism is is a big issue in the black community. Let's start with that and do a deeper dive next time. Overall great job if I was new to the dance.

We are the fire!

I’m so very impressed with Mr. Lemon’s understanding and description of racism. Despite where each of us has come from, Don believes that we can, if we want do the work, change our views of people who are “different” than us.
He read the book as if he was telling a story. He read from the position of his truth and as if we were friends. I felt strange calling him Mr Lemon. I watch him every night snd refer to him as Don. Thank you my friend for your beautiful words!
