On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today.
Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day.
In the tradition of Before I Fall and If I Stay, They Both Die at the End is a tour de force from acclaimed author Adam Silvera, whose debut, More Happy Than Not, the New York Times called “profound.”

Editors Select, September 2017
Even though the entire premise of Silvera’s new YA novel is about impending death, this poignant tale of two teen boys knowingly going about their last day alive is all about the promise of life. As the socially stunted yet giant-hearted Mateo meets and gets to know rough-around-the-edges yet thoughtful Rufus, they explore what it means to be alive and who constitutes family. Michael Crouch, Robbie Daymond, and Bahni Turpin embody these and more characters in nuanced ways that tease out the many emotions of preparing for death (from regret to acceptance and growth) and embracing the most important thing about life: love. —Abby, Audible Editor

What made the experience of listening to They Both Die at the End the most enjoyable?
The premise of the connection that you hope can be escaped or circumvented. I tragically cheered for Mateo and Rufus to be the exception to the Death-Cast model. My heart wanted for a better ending. Maybe I am just a sucker for a happy ending. What was one of the most memorable moments of They Both Die at the End?
When Mateo and Rufus were singing American Pie. I imagine the jumbled singing, laughter, and love on the stage on display for everyone to see. Also, when Mateo is in Rufus lap, so close to him that they can feel each other's heartbeat.Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Michael Crouch's performance of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (prior to it being called Love, Simon). His work is beautiful in both books.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I CRIED!!! I really should hate this book. It was in my recommended and something told me to leave it alone, but I felt adventurous. My heart is regretting it so much right now. I want the ending to be different. Maybe some Matrix type ending where it was all a simulation and they can find each other to be together forever. I know I am just some hopeless romantic, but they were perfection!Any additional comments?
Adam Silvera, you are officially now my mortal frenemy (friend/enemy). You wrote this diabolical book that made me love these two characters, due to finding so much of myself in them. You invite me on a beautiful journey with the purest, most maniacal intentions to rip my heart out for sheer enjoyment and pleasure. I will now go continue to think about this book and definitely cry some more. Thanks, but no thanks!I truly hate this book (5 Stars)

While crying is not unusual for me in general, it rarely happens from audiobooks. Clearly stated, I was devastated. I cried a lot. Every time I see the title in my library I'm filled with sadness and a longing to listen again. Such a great story and emotional journey.
Wow. So good. So sad.

I think the idea is great. The title tells you whats happening before you even decide to read it and it's interesting. You don't want the ending to be the truth and it making it exciting.
My complaints of the book are it gets kind of slow and it kinda sad ( that's kind of what you have to sign up for so I wasn't surprised but it's kinda like 'give the characters a break?' )
Not awful, not amazing. It's an average book with an interesting hook.
You know the ending but don't want it to be true.
