Publisher's summary

Alastair Humphreys walked across India, from the Coromandel Coast to the Malabar Coast, following the course of a holy river. Walking alone and spending the nights sleeping under the stars, in the homes of welcoming strangers, or in small towns and villages, he experienced the dusty enchantment of ordinary, real India on the smallest of budgets.

There Are Other Rivers tells the story of the walk through an account of a single day as well as reflecting on the allure of difficult journeys and the eternal appeal of the open road.

Very Enjoyable!

It was fun to hear what a day is like walking across a foreign country. What I find refreshing is the introspection and the internal journey that can only be known through experience.

I liked the non-linear presentation, flowing and unfolding like the river. Like the mind, flitting from one association to another and mingling with physical reality.

Quick but thoughtful listen

This is the second book I listened to by Alastair Humphreys, the first being Around the World by Bike. I enjoy how poetically introspective he is in his observations and internal dialogues. For this book specifically, it was an interesting format taking place over a single day (any day) and asked many questions around why one feels the need to keep moving, keep seeking new adventures and new horizons. I often ask myself the same questions, so this particular listen for me was thought provoking.

I have his two other audiobooks waiting in my queue, and will look forward to listening.

Journeys

You catch my interest on this journey. I travel as well and have for 25 years. Land, sea, planes and trains. Your inner thoughts expressed the mental trip. I feel a connection to you and those thoughts! The solo travelers relate. Adventure on!

A Beautiful Insight

This book is unique and introspective and endearing and honest and beautiful for it. I found it relatable in many ways. Thank you Alastair.
