Publisher's summary
From the mind of basketball legend and Academy Award-winning storyteller Kobe Bryant comes this radically original portrait of five young basketball players, one enlightening coach, and the awesome transformative power of the game. Filled with insights about the mental stamina and emotional clarity that peak performance requires, this is an indispensable story for young athletes, coaches, educators, and anyone interested in the astonishing potential of team sports to unlock individual growth.
The game will never be the same
Magic doesn’t seem possible for the West Bottom Badgers. They’re the lowest-ranked basketball team in their league, and they live in the poorest neighborhood in Dren. Nobody expects them to succeed at anything. Plus, every kid on the team has secret struggles of his own.
When a new coach named Professor Wizenard arrives on the first day of training camp, the Badgers can’t explain the magical-seeming things they see and hear. Every player experiences unique and strange visions - visions that challenge everything they thought they knew about basketball, and about their lives and their secrets off the court. To survive the increasingly intense ordeals of training, the Badgers will need to take unimaginable risks, learn to trust their teammates, and confront the darkness within themselves.

Story
Tennis means life and death for the residents of the magical kingdom of Nova, and for 12-year-old Legacy, it’s the only thing getting her through the long days taking care of the other kids at the orphanage. That’s all about to change when she hears about Silla’s tournament. Silla, the ruler of Nova, hosts an annual tournament for the less fortunate of her citizens to prove themselves and win entrance to the Academy, where they can train to compete at nationals. The prize is Silla’s favor and enough cash to keep open the orphanage, and Legacy has her heart set on both.

Stephen A. Smith has never been handed anything, nor was he an overnight success. Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

Kevin Garnett was one of the most dominant players the game of basketball has ever seen. He was also one of its most outspoken. Over the course of his illustrious 21-year NBA career, he elevated trash talk to an art form and never shied away from sharing his thoughts on controversial subjects. In KG: A to Z, published ahead of Garnett’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame, he looks back on his life and career with the same raw candor.

Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Story
Daniel is the backup punter for the Erie Hills Elephants, which really means he's the water boy. He spends most of his time hoping no one notices his strange habits - he calls them Zaps: avoiding writing the number four, for example. His life gets weirder when another girl at school, unkindly nicknamed Psycho Sara, notices him for the first time. She seems to peer through him. Then Daniel gets a note: "I need your help", it says, signed, Fellow Star Child - whatever that means. Suddenly, Daniel, a total no one at school, is swept up in a mystery that might change everything for him.

Outstanding!❤
It made me feel closer to Kobe as I struggle to resolve his sudden death. It's much more than a kid story. It's a guide to self-exploration, perseverance, friendships, excellent, and life. Brilliant!!! ❤❤🙏🏽🙏🏽

Simply Beautiful
I bought this book in memory of my favorite athlete of All time the late Black Mamba himself Kobe Bean Bryant, but little did I know I would absolutely fall in love with this amazing journey of a magical coach and a group of amazing young kids. As a young adult this book took me back to my childhood and also made me reflect on all of things both in my childhood and now as a young man. I totally recommend this book to young people and old. 5 stars !

Must for Athletes
This is a must for athletes for struggle with transferring their skills from sport to other areas of life. Love Phylicia Rashad but perhaps a different narrator would work better. One that could bring the teenage characters more to life.

Great book for Youths
I wish I could have this book when I was young. I grew from a selfish 'blackhole' player, to now a team-orientated players over the years by learning different people play, a player who didn't know how to do floaters and jump hooks, to now a player who can do those with either hand.
This book offers great messages/advice for those who lack of these mindsets (which was me 15 years ago). I see this as a very valuable asset for kids nowadays, and I wish Kobe could have continued sharing his knowledge to us.
Gone too soon. RIP mamba!

Yes!!
Perfect combination of fantasy and magic fused with humanity, sports and teamwork. The audiobook was also narrated very craftfully and held me at the edge of my seat, chapter after chapter.
