Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Story
My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.

Story
Becoming a stepmother is the best thing that ever happened to me. My favorite part of every day is picking Charlie up from school, watching her little rucksack bounce behind her as she skips over for a hug. I love the feel of those thin freckled arms around my waist. After a few rocky months of panic attacks when her mother deserted her, Charlie is flourishing. But the day Charlie’s mother Bronwyn returns without warning—showering Charlie with gifts and making promises she can’t keep—fear ripples through me. She doesn’t know just how far I will go to protect that little girl.

When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

But the husband has a substantial alibi and a number of witnesses claim to have seen Ana fall, and the official ruling seems to hold up.
Still, the more Monahan uncovers about Ana's life, the more he realizes how many people would kill to keep her secrets hidden. And the closer he gets to the truth, the greater the odds grow that he, too, will take a fatal fall.

Long
Many twists and turns wasn't sure where or how this would end or if it would. When it finally got to the end it went quick. This goes to show even though you live with someone you marry them have their child you never really know that person. You never know what kind of horror they can bring in to your life. Concrete table!! Why would anyone spend over $4000 for one.

The Widower's wife
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Widower's Wife?
It is told with two storylines intertwined. Ryan's investigation in late November and early December is interspersed with Ana and Tom Bacon's decision in October to defraud the insurance company . It has many suspenseful parts that it was hard to pause while listening to the audiobook.

Not to bad
What did you like best about The Widower's Wife? What did you like least?
Honest Review :
The story was ok and the narrations were easy to listen to but I just feel...for me personally that the story had to many jump scenes. I felt I was listening to one part and then it would go another part and then jump right back to where I had been before it went to another scene and it became confusing for me
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
What was leading up to the wife
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrators voice was soft and easy and knew when to pick up and slow down
Was The Widower's Wife worth the listening time?
Yes and No...
Any additional comments?
Not so many jump scenes

Interesting story....wanted to find out "what happens" but truly unbelievable.....would anyone continue down the financial, emotional and dangerous road this woman traveled.......
The ending was also "unbelievable".....and one knows this would never happen in the real world.....

Slow. Dull. Boring.
I gave this audio book numerous chances but it never got better. It lacks intrigue and suspense. The storyline drags on and on without actually progressing. After twenty two chapters of an aimless plot, forgettable characters and mundane narration I'd had enough! I promptly called Audible and returned the audio with a credit refund. I'd wasted precious time on this book. I just could not waste a valuable credit as well.

Oh my dear god in heaven just no
I really wanted to just wallow in this book during my runs and melt into a good story. And I tried on three different occasions. But the descriptions...OMG. Just over-the-top and overdone and so incredibly long-winded. And to hear that in first person was just beyond weird. I'm pretty sure if you deleted all those rambling descriptions of how clothes "hung on my body like a Lego" or whatever that it would knock a good 8 hours off the listen. I could barely muster 2, if that. I don't blame the author, who obviously took "show don't tell" a little too close to heart. I blame the editor for not toning it down or at least suggesting it be written in third person instead so those descriptions wouldn't sound so utterly weird.
Anyway, I'm glad, as I ran my finger across the track pad of my MacBook Pro, gently gliding the curser upwards like a Carolina bluebird soaring into the azure-tinted sky, and tapped the "return this title," that the dialog box appeared and, as if to shout in glory to the angels above, stated "Credit Refunded." The sheer excitement made my head jerk ever so slightly to the right, sending my long auburn ponytail tumbling down my bare shoulder, tickling the skin on my left forearm, sore from the COVID booster I'd received just hours earlier. I sighed, allowing my diaphragm to move the air within me upwards before dipping my curser back into my Wish List where I used the same middle finger that glided across the trackpad that removed "The Widower's Wife" from my Library to add a nice, dark-and-well-written Samantha Downing novel. Ahhhh. Much better, thank you.

I personally liked the insurance investigator Ryan. Tom was a excuse my language a Damn Shame. Anna was not living in a real world. Did she really think Tom was goingn to let her live? The ending was so weird and rushed in my opinion. Narrator did awesome although the story was somewhat unbelievable.
