An instant Wall Street Journal Bestseller!

From the founder of the Warrior Poet Society, a daring manual on how to become a dangerous—and good—man

There is a war on masculinity, and everywhere we look—on every front we hold sacred—we can see the painful reminders of this collapsing order. The chaos and crisis we are experiencing today should be a signal for men everywhere to rise up; to fight to preserve our way of life by once again walking the ancient paths. But this isn’t a journey that need be taken alone.

In The Warrior Poet Way, public speaker, former Army Ranger, and all-around patriot John Lovell offers a needed antidote to the lack of strong men in our modern world. This is a call to all men to be what they truly are. Both dangerous and good. Lovers and fighters. Lions and lambs.

Both philosophical and practical, this guide dispenses essential advice on how to be a whole man, from tyranny-proofing your home to wooing the right woman. Through anecdotes of his time in the military, interviews with other men, and practicums at the end of each chapter, Lovell teaches the virtue of balance—navigating the tension between violent warrior and romantic poet—and guides men through each mental and physical change they must make to embody the ancient spirit of a real man.

This is a manual for every man to use in the fight of their life—and what it takes to win. No good thing comes easy, and the life you want is just on the other end of what you don’t want to do. This is the Warrior Poet Way. Are you ready to walk it?

Critic reviews

"If you want someone to shoot straight with you about masculinity, life, death and what matters most, read this book. If you want to continue to pretend the world is not a dangerous place and men aren't really needed, let it go." —John Eldredge, bestselling author of Wild at Heart

The Warrior Poet Way is a must-read, written by a man who has seen violence and inhumanity and has chosen instead to spread humane ideas through the lens of a true Warrior with a heart.” —Isaiah Washington, award-winning actor, producer, and director

“I’m weary to my core with airy books on manhood that offer untested theories and unlived philosophies. In The Warrior Poet Way, you smell the sweat and feel the acrid bite of gunpowder on each page, because John has lived his words and offers what he has found to those he hopes will become his brothers in arms. Get this book. Read it. Live it fiercely.” —Stephen Mansfield, New York Times bestselling author

Utterly Disappointed (that it wasn’t longer)

Incredible message and stories in this book. They challenge me to be a better man in every aspect of life. I wish there would’ve been a war story or two mixed in with the life lessons but it was still good nonetheless. I hope this isn’t the last of this franchise.

A true guide to Living Free and Dying Well

I’ve followed John for a long time. YouTube to his Warrior Poet Society Network WPSN. He is a true Warrior and Poet. This book is an excellent guide for Men to strive to become the same. Every Husband/Father/Son should listen to this book.

I ordered the hardcover and after reading it I listened to the audio to dig deeper. I was very happy to find that John reads his own book. He does an excellent job. I always feel when the author is a good reader that builds connection to his audience.

You will learn many skills in this book that if applied will make life a little or a lot better.

I retired from the Army after 23 years so I look at it through my experiences but everyone not just Military can highly benefit from this book. He explains the need to find the balance of being both a Warrior and a Poet in life. He explains he wants to build a brotherhood of Warrior Poets.

He trains people in the use of firearms, tactics, and medical skills, He has a personalized Shadow Systems pistol collection called the “War Poet” you can buy online. He has a supply store for all things tactical. He started his own network WPSN that teaches everything from Land Navigation, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Philosophy. He conducts sermons at churches explaining Jesus is both a Lion and a Lame. I say all that to say he balances Warrior and Poet extremely well and that is what all us Men should strive to do.

In the book I especially enjoyed the “Live like you were dying” tie in. I agree with John: “There is something transcendent about facing your own demise before it’s too late. It’s the only way to truly live, fully alive.” He also explains the Military “death letters” that can be eye opening on determining what truly matters in your life. I agree that everyone should write one. It is an impressive tool for building personal perspective in life.

I like his ability to tell everyone how strong his faith in Jesus is and how it improves everything in his life but does it in a way not to “push” his personal beliefs upon anyone. He is just not afraid to let everyone know loud and clear he loves Jesus.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. Good books are hard to find today and Great books are few and far between anymore. This is in the Great Book category.

MUST READ!

I loved that he and his wife both narrated the audio version. He is a great story teller and very motivating. As a young dad of two I have struggled with how to raise my son. This book has really opened my mind to a great way to raise a strong and loving boy. I would recommend this to every highschool aged kid male or female. Additionally any young adult male struggling with how a man should act and live their life.

...Nice try anyway

His visage reminds one of the Sheriff of Rottingham, his voice, I've heard better. He talks about being a poet, but, most of the book he doesn't even try to rhyme, and I think it just comes across as lazy and uninspired.... Nice try though

If you didn't figure out the satire, I will correct that now. I recommend this book to men and young men. Ive been begging my wife to read it too. John seems to be on a mission to make the world full of strong, good men. I have had to force myself to resume reading(listening to) this book a few times because I was tired of being convicted by it. I will be refocusing my life efforts and changing my priorities now. Thank you John. Praying for you always, stay strong, keep the faith.

This is a must read for ALL fathers and young men!

There are so many things to unpack from this book. It's gives great insight to being a husband, father, brother, son, and neighbor. Most important aspect of being a real man is following Jesus and treating others with compassion yet being ready answer the call when needed. My boys will be reading this as well..

Very good

This book is good. There is much wisdom to be found here. You will be reminded of the important things in life.

A warrior who has not cultivated wisdom and learning is unlikely to be a force for good
