Publisher's summary

Scott Beck knows the date and month he will die.

What he doesn’t know is which year.

Minutes away from surviving another April 22, someone knocks at his door…

In a near-dystopian future, artificial intelligence has uncovered the clockwork nature of the universe.

And now, because of the intervention of a religious organization of Watchers, soon everyone on the planet will discover the date, month, and year they will die.

Combining dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and cyberpunk fiction, The Warm Machine is the first novel in the haunting five-part Humanity Series, depicting a future in which humanity is on the brink of annihilation.

It’s not the end of the world…only humanity.

Begin the adventure before it’s too late!

This was a great story but...

Really neat story but even for a book about artificial intelligence the communication between characters was pretty bad in some places. Especially at the end it's like a merry go round of repetitive dialog for last 45 minutes or more. You may as well just had everyone go mute for the last hour and it would have been a better ending. Sorry but it's the worst time to add the fluff - dilutes what was a decent ending.

A single date will change humanity's future

Received an audio copy from the author to review, this is an honest review.

Narrated by Jack Jacobs, whose harrowing performance brings to life this absolutely intelligent dystopian thriller that will leave its readers with profound questions as they follow Scott Beck as he tries to understand what it means to be living in a futuristic Britain with the Watchers, a powerful AI and dates claiming to foretell when a person will die... altering the world that people are familiar with. The fight for free will, humanity's existence and the truth has just begun.

Highly recommended.

Warm Machine

The narration was very good. The story OK. It is a modern take on an age old story. As with all series, the story continues. I received a free copy of the Audible and am voluntarily giving this review.

Really good audiobook to listen!!!

"The Warm Machine" is the first installment of the "Humanity Series" by Seth Rain, an intelligent dystopian story that explores the horrific possibilities of relying on artificial intelligence too much.

Interesting plot but lacked enough action for me

I really enjoy Seth Rain's Electronic Gods series and was looking forward to starting another of his books, however it didn't quite grasp me. Not that the book didn't have any action at all, but I struggled with finishing it. The concept of the plot is intriguing enough but book one doesn't seem to have a lot going on and maybe the religious thread and the slightly monotone narrator didn't quite get through to me.

In the end I did speed up the narration to around 1.5 as it was just too slow for me. The narrator was good at accents, though -not all are, so that is a plus.

Not sure if I will continue with the next book in the series.

Fascinating story woven from familiar elements

This review is based on the audiobook for The Warm Machine. I enjoy Apocalyptic/Dystopian stories, and in several cases, they become very predictable, however The Warm Machine was far from predictable. The second book in this series has rapidly risen to the top of my to be read list. Some parts of the story felt so familiar, I kept thinking of The Watchers as analogous to those in the Highlander Movies/TV series. However, the “chosen” are anything but immortal. Mr. Rain has taken very familiar topics and woven them into a story that I found engrossing if not mesmerizing. Additionally, Jack Jacobs narration and accent set this book into a whole different level – I sure hope he narrates all the future episodes in this series.

Great Informative Audio Book For Learning This

Since I tend to read historical fiction rather than fiction set in the future, I might find this book a little odd on my reading list.
