Acerca de esta escucha
First time in audiobook form the classic pulp space opera! From the hallowed pages of Amazing Stories in 1942, here is the first of the adult space operas. Written by the legendary, and highly controversial science fiction editor Raymond A. Palmer, The Vengeance of Martin Brand has never before appeared in any audiobook edition.
In this book, Palmer took a giant stride forward from his contemporaries, replacing the noble, uncomplicated heroes of the first space operas, with the tormented anti-hero, "Suicide" Martin Brand, one of science fiction's most memorable characters. The half-crazed Brand, who likes to play classical music while rocketing toward a half-dozen enemy ships, atomic cannons blasting, is Earth's only hope. The embittered former spy for the Interplanetary Patrol is the only one who knows about the Martian spaceships waiting in the hidden cavern on the Moon. It would be easy to make himself the most powerful man in the system and become its master. But, to warn Earth Brand would have to forsake vengeance on the man who betrayed him and cost him everything he held dear, then survive two women, one who has sworn to kill him and one who has sworn to arrest him dead or alive, and if he made it that far, he'd have to fight his way to the surface through ten thousand Martians. But that's why the call him "Suicide" Martin Brand. And even if he does succeed in warning Earth, war will flare across three worlds!
From its advanced flashback within a flashback technique, to the adult passions and emotions of the characters, The Vengeance of Martin Brand is superior space opera far ahead of its time!

Triplanetary was first serialized in Amazing Stories in 1934. After the Lensman series became popular, Smith took his Triplanetary story and turned it into the first of the Lensman series, using it as a prequel to give the back story for the protaganists in the Lensmen series. He added six new chapters, doubling it in size and it's really a different book from the serialized novel, being published 14 years after the first. It was put into Gutenberg just last year.

A Timeless Odyssey into the Cosmos: for revenge!!!
One occasionally stumbles upon a hidden gem that takes you on an interstellar journey of epic proportions. "The Vengeance of Martin Brand: The Classic Space Opera" by Raymond A. Palmer, narrated by the talented Michael Reid, is undeniably one such treasure trove. This enthralling audiobook is a testament to the timeless allure of space opera and the sheer brilliance of Palmer's storytelling prowess.
Set against the backdrop of a futuristic universe, "The Vengeance of Martin Brand" catapults listeners into a world where cosmic warfare, complex characters, and moral dilemmas converge in a symphony of suspense. As an audiobook enthusiast, I found this auditory experience to be nothing short of extraordinary, and I am delighted to share my thoughts on this masterpiece.
Raymond A. Palmer, a legendary and controversial figure in science fiction literature, embarked on a daring literary venture with "The Vengeance of Martin Brand." This novel, originally published in 1942 in the pages of Amazing Stories, marked a significant departure from the traditional space opera narratives of its time. Palmer's audacious move was to introduce us to the tormented anti-hero, "Suicide" Martin Brand, a character whose complexities continue to resonate with readers and listeners alike.
Michael Reid's narration is the guiding star that leads us through this immersive cosmic odyssey. His voice is a perfect match for the tone and atmosphere of the story, effortlessly transitioning between the characters' emotions and the thrilling action sequences. Reid's skillful narration brings Martin Brand and the entire universe to life, painting vivid images in the minds of the listeners.
At its core, "The Vengeance of Martin Brand" is a tale of redemption and sacrifice, a journey of a broken man who finds himself thrust into a pivotal role as Earth's last hope. Suicide Martin Brand's character is a testament to Palmer's visionary storytelling. Brand is a half-crazed, embittered former spy for the Interplanetary Patrol, a man driven by vengeance against those who betrayed him. Yet, beneath the layers of his tormented psyche, lies a glimmer of heroism that gives listeners hope.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this audiobook is Palmer's ingenious use of narrative techniques. The story unfolds through advanced flashback within a flashback, adding depth and complexity to the plot. As listeners, we are constantly engaged in unraveling the mysteries of Martin Brand's past while simultaneously being drawn into the unfolding drama of the present.
The characters in "The Vengeance of Martin Brand" are multifaceted and compelling. Palmer deftly explores their adult passions and emotions, making them relatable and authentic. Brand's internal struggle between his desire for vengeance and his responsibility to save Earth is palpable, creating a magnetic tension that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats. The two women in Brand's life, one seeking to kill him and the other to arrest him, add layers of intrigue and unpredictability to the narrative.
Palmer's world-building is another standout feature of this audiobook. The Martian spaceships hidden in a moon cavern and the prospect of war across three worlds serve as a rich backdrop for the unfolding drama. The intricately designed universe in which the story takes place is a testament to Palmer's imagination and his ability to transport listeners to a distant future.
As the narrative progresses, "Suicide" Martin Brand's nickname becomes increasingly fitting. His audacious courage in the face of insurmountable odds and his willingness to sacrifice everything for the greater good are awe-inspiring. Palmer skillfully portrays the internal battle between vengeance and duty, making Brand's character arc a journey of self-discovery and transformation.
"The Vengeance of Martin Brand" is a space opera that was truly ahead of its time. Palmer's innovative approach to storytelling, complex characters, and riveting plot make this audiobook an absolute must-listen. As a fan of the genre, I am immensely grateful that this classic has been brought to life in audiobook form, allowing a new generation of listeners to experience its brilliance.
In conclusion, "The Vengeance of Martin Brand: The Classic Space Opera" is a stellar audiobook that deserves a place of honor in the annals of science fiction literature. Raymond A. Palmer's visionary storytelling, Michael Reid's exceptional narration, and the timeless themes of redemption and sacrifice make this audiobook an unforgettable journey into the cosmos. It's a testament to the enduring power of space opera and a masterpiece that will captivate listeners for generations to come. Strap in, listeners, for an exhilarating adventure that transcends time and space!

Beyond traditional
I was expecting typical traditional sci-fi. This book delivered. But it also went beyond that. The plot is multi faceted, the characters a bit extreme, but somehow well placed and plausible. A great listen.

Well written Pulp
The Vengeance of a Martin Brand is entertaining, fast moving, and has lots of twists and turns. It definitely is very well written for pulp sci-fi. The attitudes towards women are definitely pre feminist. Excellent narration.
