Story
Get the North Star to the Galactic Sentinel, sign off with the Galactic Council, and return to Fleet Academy Four. It should have been easy, but compared to the Galactic Council, Earth’s politicians are girl scouts selling Peanut Butter Patties to their grandmothers. Widespread riots and whispers of Chimera terrorists only make matters worse, especially when the terrorists are better armed than most of Sentinel Security.

Story
Dominic Moretti was dealing with a lot of issues. Life hadn’t been easy since returning home from Afghanistan. His marriage was on the rocks, his sports betting was out of control, and he was hanging out with the wrong cronies in Manhattan’s Little Italy - just another war hero who couldn’t piece his life back together in the real world. Also, there was that strange, annoying feeling that he was being watched.... Humankind was indeed being evaluated, by the highly advanced Khantam Lom, an alien species in control of much of the galaxy.

Story
March 15th, Earth Year 2290. The day the aliens returned. The memories are still fresh. Of colonies burning. Of millions dying in agony. Fifty years later, we’ve built up our strength. Using a wormhole, we colonized both sides of the galaxy. It was the worst mistake we could have made. Our enemy has returned and the wormhole has collapsed. Commander Thatcher finds himself on the wrong side of the divide. Separated from his pregnant wife by countless light years. He’s just been given command of a light armored cruiser. His first command.

Story
The ends justify the means - except when humanity’s survival is on the line. Earth’s landscape lies scorched by weapons fire after the most recent round of alien attacks. The technology the Mozari left behind has advanced scientific understanding at breakneck speeds, giving humanity the chance to fight back against their Gresian foes. Spaceworthy vessels and all-new weaponry are pumped out of orbiting factories, boarded by the brightest minds to begin colonizing new planets. But humanity is still vulnerable. The return of the Gresians isn’t just inevitable. It’s imminent.

The mission might be their last. Humanity can’t win. Lieutenant Daniel West and his soldiers will never overcome the crushing odds of a direct assault against superior alien forces. Every simulation test they’ve run ends the same way - in death. But they have no other choice. It’s either obliterate the entire Gresian race or destroy the ancient Shaldine gate system. Forever. Good thing Daniel has no problem eradicating an enemy that shows no mercy. He won’t risk standing by and allowing the Gresians to enslave those he loves.

Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

As a sci-fi author with a hit TV show, I have a few ideas about what alien invaders are supposed to look like. In my stories, they’re technologically advanced monsters, with tentacles, and no faces. Turns out I was right about the technology. And about how angry they’d be. But the way they look is more terrifying than even I could have imagined. They look exactly like us. Because they are us.

I thought the hard part of helping the Helta defeat the rampaging Tevynians would be the fighting. How wrong I was. To the Helta, we Earthers look just like the Tevynians, their mortal enemies. And convincing their government to ally with humans may be even beyond the crew of the starship James Bowie. But the clock is ticking, because the Tevynian fleet is bearing down on the Helta homeworld. If we can’t talk the Helta into accepting our help to fight them off, then Helta Prime will fall.... And Earth will be next.

The McCormacks have been trying to keep a low profile so they can complete their plan to bring Earth to the club of spacefaring civilizations without creating a world war over the technology. But it’s hard to keep a low profile while building a space station, what with lifting all the material they need, designing new shuttles, and harnessing asteroids. Earth’s first colony ship finally reaches the target world. The excitement of planetfall is indescribable, but quickly transforms into sick disappointment when they find the atmosphere is a roiling mass of hydrochloric acid, carbon dioxide, and other deadly poisons. They fly onward, seeking better planets. They find them, but none are ideal. The search goes on for a century, then longer still. The enemy is coming. The enemy is already here. For years they’ve prepared, plotted, and planned. For years they’ve waited to strike from above and below. Earth is under siege. The enemy covers the landscape. Proxima is unharmed. But that’s about to change. No armies can stop this menace, and no defenses can slow the advance. We are scattered and isolated. We are ignorant and weak. No help is coming. No help remains...or does it? Old heroes will sacrifice everything. New heroes will rise.

Publisher's Summary
An ancient alien race, a sentient monkey, and epic battles.
Jason Grimshaw has one job.... Get the cadets to Colony 115.
Just another day. Just another milk run. Or so he thought.
When scanners pick up an unidentified alien vessel, it's already too late. With his ship blown out from under him, and his crew scattered across a war-torn planet, his day just keeps getting better.
The good news is, one of the pilots survived. The bad news is, it's the biggest pain in his ass, and she's stranded miles away.
When Clio Evans said she wanted to fly, crash-landing a starship wasn't what she had in mind. She may not be the most experienced Fleet pilot, but she sure as hell has a few tricks up her sleeve, and with an army standing between her and the rest of her crew, she'll have to pull out all the stops, even if it means exposing a secret that'll see her hanged for treason.
You'll love this military sci-fi adventure with a twist, because who doesn't love overbearing commanders, cocky redheads, and aliens with guns?

Ok, but falls apart
You can make it through 9 hrs of the book with not much trouble. After that point, I felt like things were happening and choices were made just because the plot needed it to. The AI on Project 0 being probably the worst example...actually the whole sequence from getting to the ship to getting it through the gate is just ....bad Star Trek....really bad. I might listen to the second book on the off chance the writer works on the mistakes.

Great story to be sure this guy though needs to work on bringing the characters to life better. Struggled to get through listening to this guys voice. great for fans of Star Wars
if you like a lot of fighting. And I mean 90% fighting. The plot barely makes a show. everybody gets saved by some miraculous event. Apparently nobody's smart enough to figure their way out of fighting a superior Force. no cliche goes left behind. listen on high speed. I don't think any of the reviews mention that this is really two books in one. There are two plots moving on parallel tracks without any resemblance to each other until the final chapters. pretty confusing when you're listening to the reader and the chapter switches to the other plot line. takes awhile to realize what happened to that battle you were just listening to. My pet peeve is when author introduce an alien character that nobody knows about but coincidentally it speaks English and can eat human food without being poisoned. Maybe it will be explained in later books. This is not science fiction. It is a military western/war with magic devices. For instance the alien gun has no obvious trigger and will not fire for our Heroes. Could easily be explained by technology that recognizes it's not near an authorized user. But noooo, turns all it takes is getting mad. Why would an alien gun recognize human emotions? hard to find any science here.

Good story, not the best narration.
I am enjoying the story itself, however it is hard going to listen to at times. This is mainly due to the narration and poor pronunciation of certain letters. Ideally this should be recorded again by a different narrator. I know in the future I will only by a kindle version of this story or sequels if it has the same narrator.
