Love this series !!!!

This is one of my favorite series. I stopped listening to a book about 1/2 way through when I saw this book in the new releases. I didn’t know there was a new Quinn book coming out. This is such a great series. Each book can be listened to as a standalone but I think to really appreciate all the characters it should be listened to in order.
In this book Quinn and his team are suspended. Just when they think they’re going to be seeing lots time off, an opportunity to right a job that went wrong nine years earlier is offered. The only catch is they won’t have backup and their names can’t be associated with it
This book is full of global action. There’s human trafficking and imprisonment but not for sex. Instead it’s for knowledge.
Scott Brick as always gives an exceptional performance.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Author Brett Battles NEVER disappoints!!

I happened to discover The Cleaner, Book 1 in the Jonathan Quinn series by Brett Battles, a few days after its publication in July 2007 here at Audible. Narrator Scott Brick deserves credit because I had just completed and loved Wildfire and Lion's Game by Nelson DeMille which Brick narrated. THE VANISHED is Book 15 in the in the Quinn series not counting Becoming Quinn and several other stories. Several key characters have been added and spinoff series started as the espionage series has gotten better and better. There are now 37 novels in several series by Brett Battles in my Audible library All are outstanding.

Why Brett why?

I’ve read every Quinn book and was really looking forward to this one. However, I stopped at Chapter 5. I just got tired of hearing about everyone wearing masks. True disclosure, I have my own opinion about masks but that’s not actually the point. We are reading these novels as an escape so having constant reminders of the fear propaganda is annoying. Also, I seriously doubt that cold-blooded assassins who could die any minute would be concerned about wearing a mask. For instance, would an assassin during the horrible flu season of 2017-2018 consult the CDC website before planning a hit and then wear a mask? Quinn doesn’t always wear a bullet-proof vest but yet he’d wear a mask? Seriously?
I doubt I possess a lone view here and all of which is easily avoided by simply leaving it out of the story. Very disappointed.

Good Performance and Plot, Annoying Details

The Jonathan Quinn characters are all solid and Scott Brick delivers his usual quality performance. Since I read or listen to novels for entertainment (and even a little escapism), I found the interjection of COVID-19 compliance into the characters' behaviors to be disconcerting. I also found the story a bit drawn out and a little trite in places - for example, the open animosity between Quinn's group and the FBI. Other than that, the story's theme about "talent trafficking" was very interesting. If you like Brett Battles and Jonathan Quinn, the novel is worth your time. However, The Vanished wasn't close to being my favorite..

Injecting Pandemic Information Ridiculous

Typically I enjoy this authors books. However, Injecting Pandemic Information was Ridiculous. I found myself annoyed by the mention of N95 masks, empty streets, and 2 week isolation periods. Like Covid 19 was the black plague.

In the face of these challenging high tech fiction story line this nonsense ruined the book for me.

Be a while before my next purchase in future.

WAY too much about the virus.

Do not bother with this title if you are looking for an escape from the pandemic. The author seems obsessed and never missed a chance to mention something associated with the pandemic. Yes, the coronavirus is reality; however, his descriptions of precautions and the environment were over the top and took away from the story. I automatically purchase all new Quinn books when they come out, but I’ll ensure I thoroughly read the reviews on the next one prior to purchasing to ensure there is not unreasonable attention paid to the virus.

Another outstanding performance.

Scott Brick brings these characters to life for Me.

When the author decided to include the BS pandemic in the storyline I came extremely close to turning it off and returning it to get My credit back.
I only stayed with it because of the narrator.
After the general plot was laid out the rest of the book became totally predictable, and even though you know what is going to happen Scott Brick’s style makes the details exciting to hear.

High Expectations

Mr. Battles last book , “Wrong Alibi” , set such a high standard. BUT. I wished this book had kept the pace, tension and developed story line. Still worth a listen but not as good as his last!

brett battles is constantly amazing!

I love these series. he always leaves a teaser but finishes each story. how he writes all these books at such a high volume and quality is beyond me!

Worth the wait?

The performance was perfect as always. Interesting storyline, however, the ending left me wanting for more. Why did the first mission fail? What was the mirage project working on. Can’t wait for the next Jonathan Quinn book.
