Story
With a name like Quinn Calahan, I sounded as Irish as a leprechaun dancing a jig on a four leafed clover, but the truth was, I’d never been closer to the emerald isle than drinking green beer at the St Patrick’s day street party in Boston until I messed up so badly I had to leave the US. I was offered a job in a tiny village in Ireland that no one’s ever heard of. And I think that was the point in sending me there.

Publisher's Summary
At a crossroads between a cringe-worthy past (Todd the Toad) and an uncertain future (she's not exactly homeless, but it's close), Lucy Swift travels to Oxford to visit her grandmother. With Gran's undying love to count on and Cardinal Woolsey's, Gran's knitting shop, to keep her busy, Lucy can catch her breath and figure out what she's going to do.
Except it turns out that Gran is the undying. Or at least, the undead. But there's a death certificate. And a will, leaving the knitting shop to Lucy. And a lot of people going in and out who never use the door - including Gran, who is just as loving as ever, and prone to knitting sweaters at warp speed, late at night. What exactly is going on?
When Lucy discovers that Gran did not die peacefully in her sleep, but was murdered, she has to bring the killer to justice without tipping off the law that there's no body in the grave. Between a hot 500-year-old vampire and a dishy detective inspector, both of whom always seem to be there for her, Lucy finds her life getting more complicated than a triple cable cardigan. The only one who seems to know what's going on is her cat...or is it...her familiar?

Slow Start But Great First to Supernatural Series
This took me some time to get into the story is slow to boil but I was very impressed with the detail and immersion I felt by the end. The world that the main character is being drawn into feels very well developed and hints of different communities of supernatural that make an easy to build on series. I myself knit and crochet so this was a fun addition and unlike other cozies that use certain occupations as backdrop (bakery, bookstore, coffee shop) this doesn't feel like an accessory but a real part of the characters life integrating daily tasks to the story without it bogging things down. Overall this doesn't have the fast action pace of some cozies but I still found it enjoyable. There are twists and turns and fun pieces of magic mixed throughout and already some set ups for the main character struggling to straddle two worlds magic and normal. There is only the very hints of a beginning of some romantic interests but those are very, very background. The narrator did a fantastic job with the different voices and really brought out the different characters. Overall, I was surprised by the end I was already looking to find the second volume and hope it builds on what this has begun.

Entertaining surprise
The Vampire Knitting Club is an entertaining surprise. I pre judged this book because I thought the concept silly, but, I was very wrong. The mystery is well developed with engaging characters and an interesting plot. I found myself sucked in to the story and listened to it in one sitting. When I was finished, I bought the next book. Sarah Zimmerman does a very good job as narrator. She gives the characters different voices and is very good with accents. I strongly recommend this book.

Entertaining Cosy Mystery
If you enjoy books by Deborah Harkness and Sam Short this may well be right up your street. It's got definite flavours of 'A Discovery of Witches' about it with Oxford, witches and an enigmatic vampire who lives in a manor in Woodstock. The Vampire Knitting Club fits more snugly in the cosy crime and fantasy genres though. As the title suggests, the books are full of gentle humour, interesting characters and details that draw you into the story. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a steamy listen. Though our main character does have romantic interests they are of the slow burn kind and the whole story does not depend on them.
The narration could have been better if Sarah Zimmerman had been able to master British accents. Though her story-telling tone was excellent and she fit the protagonist well, the voices she gave her English characters were often jarring. Most of the characters are English so this did sadly lessen my enjoyment of the book.
In spite of this, I've listened to all the books available in this series which is a recommendation in itself. Despite various twists and turns, aspects of Nancy Warren's plots are (comfortably) predictable. The fact her mysteries remain quite addictive is testament to her story-telling skill.

I loved this book, it had an intriguing plot, engaging characters and excellent narration. All rolled into a great package certain to keep listeners up all night.

Narrators!!!
Oh my goodness, don't the authors vet the people going to read their books?! This narrator, Sarah Zimmerman, is yet another truly awful narrator. Another person unable to play multiple characters. It REALLY spoils the whole experience. Ms Zimmerman's voice is monotonous and boring.
These books are fabulous but so, so, let down when they go onto audiobook by the narrator.

Meh
I expected this audiobook to be a simple cosy, paranormal who-done-it and that is what I got.
Unfortunately it pales in comparison to many in that genre.
The protagonist is a 27-year-old American in England. The narrator’s voice does not match that character. That threw the whole book off sync.
All in all, it is passable, for a 2 for 1 sale.

A pleasant enough listen...
Nice gentle 'murder' story that is pleasant, non violent (honestly) and I can recommend as a 'cozy mystery'. Knitting has little to do with it really except for the location - a knitting club in a wool shop. Nicely paced and the narrator is just right. Not sure I will buy the next in the series as it might be a little too cozy but it was definately worth a punt.

Cozy listen
Haven't read / listen to many cozy paranormal books, but I did enjoy this as a quick listen. Sarah Zimmerman does a great job as narrator. There isn't much in the way of romance in this story. I did find the main characters reaction to some things a bit tame, like finding out her grandmother was now a vampire or that there were vampires in general. It doesn't go in depth as I like so may not continue on with this series. But if your into cozy mystery then would recommend this.
