From Book 1:

I was a divorced, middle-aged witch banished to Ireland.

My life could be summed up in a limerick....

There once was a misguided witch

Who tried a man’s fate to switch

Her punishment set

To Ireland she must get

But better than feathers and pitch!

With a name like Quinn Calahan, I sounded as Irish as a leprechaun dancing a jig on a four leafed clover, but the truth was, I’d never been closer to the emerald isle than drinking green beer at the St Patrick’s day street party in Boston until I messed up so badly I had to leave the US. I was offered a job in a tiny village in Ireland that no one’s ever heard of. And I think that was the point in sending me there. How much trouble could a divorced, middle-aged witch get into in a village that boasted very few residents, one crumbling castle that attracted no tourists, and a post office that was only open Mondays and Thursdays?

You’d be surprised.

You will fall in love with this series about second chances, magical mayhem, and book club unlike any other. From the author of the best-selling Vampire Knitting Club series.

Great book but Hollis McCarthy is not a good narrator. Wish the author would have kept Sarah Zimmerman on. Doubt I'll listen to the rest of the series. Very disappointing.

Good book, horrible narrator

I’m a huge fan of Nancy’s Vampire Knitting Club books so of course this one also appealed to me! It was a tad slow to start but once the action started it was very cleverly done! And having a cameo from some of my favorite knitting vamps helped too! Definitely a fun little mystery and can’t wait to see what the next one in the series holds for our little bookworm witch and her new Irish friends.

Slow start, but good ending...

Having read and loved both the Vampire Knitting Club series and the Witches Bake Off series by Nancy Warren, I had a feeling I’d enjoy The Vampire Book Club. I was right. Nancy does a fantastic job of writing a cozy, interesting story with likable characters and a setting you want to spend time in. The cameos from The Vampire Knitting Club were a fun and unexpected touch. Hollis McCarthy gave another great performance. I’m delighted with this book and will very happily purchase book 2 to see where Quinn’s story goes.

The series is amazing!
It starts out with a witch breaking the rules and being banished to Ireland of all places! The meat of the story centers around a vampire book club in said witches bookshop reviewing books and solving mysteries together! What more could anyone want with a beautiful country, castles, books and vampires! Sign me up please! Recommend this series to everyone!

Could one of your favorite authors be a vampire??

Listening to the narrator tell this story was calming and soothing.

After Quinn did something horrible in the witch community she relocates to Ireland. She meets Lachlan, the handsome next door neighbor. While trying to get use to living in a small village in a different country Quinn finds a dead body in the bookshop she manages. She finds herself becoming a sleuth and finding out the village secrets, she never wanted to know.

For me it was easy to start loving the characters and the village. I had hoped that Quinn and Lochlan would have developed a romance, may in a later book. I can't wait to hear the rest of the series.

I think Nancy Warren is a phenomenal writer, a weaver of a superb story. I highly recommend this audio.

Quinn Callahan found out. As a divorced witch who broke the rules, Quinn is banished from Seattle by her coven to a small country village in Ireland to assume the life of another, and to make amends for her wrong-doing. She has inherited a cute cottage by the sea, a small excentric book store, a cat, and a dead body!

As the new shopkeeper in town, Quinn quickly finds herself surrounded by friends and foes, vampires, and other witches, all of whom are eager to help (or hinder) her time in exile. Quinn's first priority (besides keeping the shop afloat) is to figure out why there was a dead guy on the floor behind the cash register. Aided by the most unlikely allies, Quinn knows that she must find the killer, or who knows who might be next?

This book combines some of my most favorite elements of stories: fantasy and mystery to create a light-hearted romp through the Irish countryside. If you are looking for heavy crime or deep analysis, this isn't the series for you, BUT, if you want a book that will make you smile and entertain then I strongly recommend it. Nancy Warren has a knack for quick wit, clever twists, and a compelling plot that keeps the reader coming back for more. Can't wait to read the next one!

I do like the Vampire Knitting Club the best, this is an equally fun read. I was reading/listening to a lot of WWII stories and heavy dramas. This was just what I needed. Light and engaging. Kept me interested and was pretty informative on Wicca practices.

Fun read!

The Vampire Book Club is a wonderful story. The characters are fun and likable. I want to be friends with Quinn and shop in The Blarney Tome bookshop. Already in love with Lachlan. This read has everything you need in a cozy mystery, a quaint village, witches, vampires and a murder to be solved. Nancy Warren the author does it again. The narration by Hollis McCarthy was smooth and reflective of the action, with delightful accents for each character. You will love it

So I think it is difficult coming from the Vampire Knitting Club series to this. Took me a minute to adjust to Hollis's narration which I think is actually quite good and I enjoyed just always takes a minute to hear another person's take on a character you have been listening to for nine volumes. I will say I love the concept of the small town, the setting, and the characters. I even enjoyed the concept of the book club and some of the members. The protagonist being an established witch who jumps into using formal magic in scene was also delightful as well as interesting politics within the witch community and covens that I didn't see as fleshed out in the Knitting Series as Lucy the protagonist of that storyline is just beginning that path. We dive headlong into the murder and Quinn right in the middle as the new girl in town. I really enjoy the concept of this protagonist being older nearing midlife and starting again in this new place where everyone knows everyone and gossip seems to move as quickly as the wind. Which is why the ending to this story was incredibly rough for me. There is always a suspension of belief in cozy mysteries as to why a protagonist would land themselves in the middle of an investigation, provided with crucial evidence, never charged with tampering with evidence, and allowed to perform open interrogations throwing around public accusations in order to suss out the guilty. Again this is a favorite trope in Agatha Christie tales the wrap up where the criminal is revealed through a series of speculation that draws out the killer. Of course there is some of this in Knitting Club series but I think frankly how much set up there is in Book Club for what an isolated small town this is to have someone who has been here for less than a week publicly outing these crimes that clearly would result in the ruin of multiple people's lives in town would make it pretty much impossible for that person to continue to live there. It was just a hard pill for me to swallow. Again I know that I am talking about a book discussing vampires, witches, and magic so I am overlooking a lot of things that aren't real, but I just found myself cringing through the whole ending. I am as I said in love with the town, the basic concept, the characters, and that narration so I will be continuing the series but I am really hoping the mysteries go beyond the small town (when you start to have the problem of how many murderers can live in one small hamlet) and Quinn's involvement feels less forced and artificial. For fans of VKC worth a one time listen and could understand why this series will have those who love it and those who will choose to stick with the other series alone.

Not as Good as Knitting Club 3.5, But Intriguing
