Publisher's Summary

When It Falls, book 5:

After their success against the Ascendants is used by the Vestibulum as a cover for the mass murder of their old enemies, Sean has discovered that the Vestis are far more ruthless and dangerous than the previous two councils he's fought. After 200 years of holding on to the leadership position among all of the councils, obviously the Vestibulum isn't going to give up anything to anyone.

While Sean promised not to start a war, it's looking more and more like that choice isn't going to be his to make. Especially when the other Ascendant chapters come calling to avenge their dead.

Then there are the people that Sean saved from the Ascendants during the raid, all of whom he's responsible for, and for whom he now has to provide with a place to live as well as protections from the magic of their former masters. Then there are the four dark elves that were freed during the raid, two of whom are now very interested in Sean, and one isn't at all afraid to let him know, constantly.

And just how do you go about introducing your mother to your (several) wives when she shows up in a few days?

Stand on It, book 6:

Once again, Sean's home has been attacked by one of the Councils, only this time they've committed what they hoped would be an overwhelming force. While Sean and his family win the fight, Sean has been seriously wounded and taken out of action. For Roxy and the others, saving Sean's life has become the priority, but there are still things that must be done to secure their victory. Those tasks fall to Sean's other wives as they pick up where Sean left off.

While the Vestibulum may have lost this last battle, they are be no means giving up on the war. They know that they've hurt Sean, so their leaders are hoping that without his leadership, they can launch a new attack and kill him before he has the chance to recover. Word of Sean's difficulties has also spread to some of his other enemies, who are also keen to try and capitalize on these events.

Thankfully, Sean has allies, and they are moving to try and save his life. But can they get there in time?

WARNING: The Valens Legacy: Publisher's Pack 3 contains bad language, rabbits fornicating, attempted murder, actual murder, tantric magic, polyamory, mayhem, people who aim to misbehave, gratuitous sex and violence, an opportunistic goblin, an old man who gets broken out of an old folks home in order to cheat at roulette, and a group of guys who are willing to do whatever it takes to prove to their girlfriends that they really do love them, no matter how embarrassing it is (and trust me, it's embarrassing).

Less Simmer, More Plot

These "two" books are actually just one book split into two. It was a fun ride, but personally less fun than the previous books. I don't want to spoil much, but because of actions toward the middle, there is considerably less steamy scenes compared to the previous book packs: if you're only reading the Valens Legacy for the steamy stuff you will be let down, however if you just love the characters and Leland's skill, this book gets the job done.

Quite Entertaining

My wife and I listen to these books together on our carpool days to and from work.

We have quite enjoyed all of Sean’s stories so far and are planing to continue them!

The narrator is fabulous with his voice inflections. Quite helpful when there are so many characters involved in stories like this.

Do not pass up this series<br />

OK. Let me start off by saying that I ended up skipping
most of the sex scenes midway through the second book and I'm currently book 8. I understand that the author is just having fun, but they don't really titillate me and they are not really relevant to the story.
That being said, the actual story is really good. I mean really! There isn't a ton of new concepts but the author does a fantastic job of molding existing concepts into a truly unique and compelling world.
The action is over the top in a good way. I was never pulled out of the book by the author not knowing how guns or physical combat works, and I'm a 13 year army veteran and Jujutsu practitioner. I'm also a huge nerd who happens to own an AR-15 and several handguns. It is VERRY rare that an author can successfully appeal to the two sides of my personality on an equal footing.
This series is not laced with deep philosophical questions, or trying to deliver nuanced social views. This series is a super fun romp through a supernatural landscape that will keep you coming back for more.
The magic system is intricate, and more importantly, fully explained. The various sect's and societies are suprisingly well developed and interesting.
The narrator is a true master of his craft and probably elevated my opinion of this series beyond what it would have been if I had simply read the book. Even with the myriad of characters, I can usually tell who is speaking based on their voice.
All that said, it is a bit of a male power fantasy (oddly enough given the female author). I knew going in that there were graphic sex scenes, but was still unprepared for the sheer volume of them and the story is so damn good that I wish that there was an edited version so that I could buy the book for my fellow Audible listening friends without them looking at me funny.

Loved every minute.

Great book, engaging characters and full of surprising twists. Sean needs to stop making the stupid mistake now that so many people are depending on him. Enjoyed reading every minute and can't wait for next book.

Story Continues to Impress

I just found these on audiobook — I had read them previously on Kindle Unlimited — and I really enjoyed them a second time as I binged on them.
I often find that by the time a series gets to the 5th or 6th book, they look track of the original story, but Jan Stryvant hasn’t.
It’s still a slightly awkward nerd who got the superpowers and the girls, who wants to live a happy life, and (f- it) get revenge.
Although it is not a serious / heavy story, they do touch on some serious subjects (eg slavery and non-con) and they are handled respectfully.
If you want a nice read about a fantastical battle with mystical s*** and kick ass women, then this is the one for you.
