Publisher's Summary

A new landscape was formed after the storm, and with it the promise of a new beginning.

One race to dominate this land. One race to survive.

Words were uttered beneath the Saxon while Howie fought the undead.

Words that brought a whole new pressure.

To be relentless and unceasing. To charge forward and never give up. To do what it takes to survive.

That pressure was building, and it became too much. Howie faltered, losing his mind as they ran through the fog and sought the doctors so desperately needed at the fort.

The final act was a simple one. A stubborn man spoke through an intercom at the munitions factory, and his words sparked such a reaction in Howie that he fell apart in front of those who love him the most.

The Undead continues with day 16.

What happened?

Books 1-10 were amazing! I couldn't stop listening. Then in book 11 the narrator changed, which was a travesty, and the story became dark and depressing. I was so disappointed that I skipped from book 11 to this installment (16). It turns out that I didn't miss much. On the upside, the narrator finally performs Dave's voice better, however, his rendition of Reggie is like nails on a chalkboard. I'm not going to include plot spoilers, but I will share my opinion that the characters have devolved into 2-dimensional, predictable individuals who bare little resemblance to their originals. The story is no longer engaging, the attempted humor isn't funny (unless you like the constant juvenile homophobic jokes between Cookie & Blowers), and I have become so disengaged that I'm returning this audio book. On the flip side, you MUST check out R.R. Haywood's "Extracted" series. It is BRILLIANT in every way!! I hope he continues that series.

The best series since the Barchester Chronicles

Too many laugh out loud moments to count. Vivid characters. I await 17 with impatience.

can we please get a movie version of this?

the story is brilliant the characters are awesome but when they changed the narrator's it starts to get a little difficult. Not going to criticize the narrator just my opinion. but seriously, can we please get a movie version with the cast from the peaky blinders maybe some of the guys from Frontier as well. but I sure do miss Dan Morgan.

great book but production value needs work.

audio was really quiet, and they forgot to hit it out the rewrite so you would hear a sentence and then hear the same sentence slightly differently

100% addicted.

So what's soooo good about this series when I've abandoned many others?

The characters - so varied, so real, so down to earth. I cry with them, I laugh with them (and their stupid jokes), I fall in love with them. I am strangely proud of who they are.

The plot - keeps twisting and turning without being ridiculous. Battle scenes are huge and inspirational, the smaller, quieter moments are often hilarious and equally often lovely, small studies of human nature.

The narrator - Joe Jameson does a simply outstanding job of bringing the many key characters and scenes to life. He is a HUGE asset to the series (as was the narrator of the early books, Dan Morgan).

Full disclosure - I'm British (living in Oz). The story and narration are British. With the abundance of American options on the market, for me, this series really stands out as a study of human nature in the face of extreme adversity. If you like the English accent (of which Joe does a fab job of many and varied accents) you will quickly become addicted to The Undead.

As with all well written 'zombie' shows, it's not about the zombies so much as what their presence brings out in the survivors, tho to be fair, in The Undead series, the infection is an interesting character in itself, which offers another unique dimension.

If you hadn't noticed, I really love this series. When new eps come out I listen to all the old ones again just to string out the suspense and make the new eps last longer.

I've just discovered RR's sci-fi series Extraction also which is proving interesting too.

What a bloody talented man!

blowers

once again brilliantly written. hookies comments to blowers, had me laughing. I was so sad when blowers put his life on the line. I fumed with fury when Maddox acted like a twat, but hoped that he would make the right choice when it mattered. The humming and singing in the Saxon. Safe sex conversation with Dave ,and so much more. These people have become my friends,I feel as if I know them and sometimes I'm there with them. Great narration too. Dont know what I will do when it's all over!

Another great instalment

This is a zombie apocalypse series. There I’ve said it.

Having got that out of the way I struggle to understand how some reviewers think this is plagiarism. Not sure how you copyright zombies.

I adore how this series has evolved and how it focuses on the characters as they evolve. To me as a reader I enjoy the 5 minutes of banter about very little as that in itself is thoroughly entertaining.

If you haven’t started already the extracted series is a must.

Mr Haywood

Keep writing, in me you have a fan

Awesome

iffy storyline in this one

first of all, i have enjoyed books 1-15 despite a lot of harrowing detail. good story mostly well executed.
however despite the strong female characters as an older reader i sometimes wonder about some views discussed.
this was the case when one character tried to help a woman give birth.
first of all MOST BIRTHS GO WELL EVEN WITHOUT HELP. i fear for younger female readers sometimes. im amazed that anyone is brave enough to have kids the way birth is over dramatised every single time it comes up.
secondly- the life of the mother is always the priority at least in the west- unless the woman says otherwise. sorry but, good grief. we are not talking cattle here. I doubt even Roy nor Howie would be that daft.
am taking a break from these books now.
theres enough misogyny in the world, i dont find it entertaining.

By Far the most intense yet

*spoilers*
The most intense, emotive book so far. The spider scene filled me with terror. Joe Jameson read with such skill , I had to fast forward 30 secs several times. The baby scene was terrifying, amazing and emotional. a complete roller coaster.
I hope the rest are just as fantastic. God Knows what I'm going to do when I finish this series lol

One of my favourite parts!!

Some reviews for this one were a bit off putting but having finished it I’d have to totally disagree with the negative ones.
They said that not a lot happens in this one..... it might not but I thoroughly enjoyed not a lot happening because even when the action is low, the interaction between characters is so well written I could happily be a fly on the wall listening to them, for me that’s what makes RRHaywood stand out from other authors, his ability to bring the characters to life so you are so invested in them you could happily listen to them talk crap to each other all day long.

Love the series, but story is getting silly

I have been in love with this series and after book 10 I purchased all the remaining audio books. Having finished this book I now regret that decision. There are a number of issues I have :

1) the hive mind, might be just me but I have a hard time relating to characters that are all but invincible. While I love the characters I feel that one should have died to humanise the team again.

2) really dislike howie at the moment. He has been portrayed as the greater good previously but has become a muddled mess. Madoxs was right, and while clearly intended howie was the villain.

3) larney, are we seriously going to glass over the rogue transmission which set her off to turn? Madoxs although he acted in the wrong way was right and it was howies actions that caused her to turn. The blame placed at Madoxs feet felt spiteful with no one accepting their own role. Once again, I found myself turning against the team because of this.

The storyline, character are so real. Has you on the edge of your seat all the way through.
