One life changing moment of madness…

Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell

It was supposed to be a fresh start. A move to a new town for me and my family.
I’d been offered the perfect position, teaching English at the local high school but then I met sixth form student Nicky Stevens.
Initially flattered by his attention, I let my guard down.
But I had no idea of the monster I’d let into my life or just how far his obsession would go.
Nothing could prepare me for the devastating consequences caused by my one moment of weakness.

It's hard for me to pull for a main character that makes so many mistakes. Granted that if she made good decisions the book would have been much shorter. She just needed to get in front of the situation. Even if she was too weak to admit the affair she could have told her husband and the head teacher she was being harassed by a student, she should have told her daughter about the situation as soon as she was suspended and avoided the problem.

a good read.

Not until the end did you find out that the main character had been fired from her previous job because of drama. I want to give her some benefit of the doubt because of her miscarriage and mental health issues, but she is so irrational and irresponsible that I cannot. I am also a teacher and can think of any number of ways and times she could have reacted differently to Nicky, but, alas, she didn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t. It was a ghastly portrayal of a woman in crisis. She shut off all reason and just talked and talked. I grew tired.

This woman!

I have enjoyed all of Gemma Rogers books, but this one was lacking. The main character was very naive and the plot was very predictable. Even with the understanding that love or lust can cause people to make bad decisions, the character’s decisions were ridiculous. And there were many cringe-worthy parts due to the love interest being a student.

Not one of her best

The best thing about this story is that the central problem is so er human. Give it a vo.

Love Gemma Rogers and her writing. However, this main character is SO frustrating. If it was a screen, I would be yelling "What are you thinking?!". She repeats unreal decisions over and over. And it is over 11 hours. How many times can someone make poor decisions?! Ugh.
That said, the narrator "Georgia Maguire" does a great job. Yes, it's fiction. Why am I getting all worked up? This proves that the story draws you in, the characters' personalities are very clear. Definitely worth a listen. Just be prepared to get frustrated with the main character.
