Publisher's summary

Award-winning author ReShonda Tate Billingsley delivers a poignant novel about the power - and fragility - of family, personal identity, and the choices we are called on to make....

Raised by a widowed mother, Jill Reed has come a long way from her difficult youth. But while she may not have had money, Jill never doubted she was rich in love. Her mother, Connie, made Jill the center of her world. Now, even though she has a young family of her own, it’s Jill’s turn to care for her ailing mother.

When early dementia begins to set in, Connie starts talking about Jill’s “other life.” Jill assumes it’s just rambling confusion. Still, Connie’s stories about Jill’s childhood, and her father’s early death, never quite added up. And when a strange man shows up to Jill’s job bearing news that turns Jill’s life upside down, there’s no denying Connie’s devastating secret.

As Jill sets out to learn more about her past, she’s stunned by what she learns and what it will mean for her future. Now, she must decide what price she’s willing to pay to claim the life that’s rightfully hers.

This was an amazing book!

I did not want this story to end. Just as I wanted to predict what was going to happen next, I found myself being absolutely wrong. This story should be a movie!

Great Story❤️

I adore a good book that, regardless of who you are or your background, you can sink into the storyline and lose yourself. That’s this book. I’ve enjoyed ReShonda Tate Billingsley as a storyteller for a while and the twists and turns in this book were unexpected and intriguing.

daughter

To know that she learned to love both women, and not all the money could make her disown the woman that raised and loved her.

Make it make sense!

I am disappointed that the main character felt more sympathy for everybody else except her biological mother who was robbed of her child by kidnapping The bio mom was the victim. Then to make a demand that she would expose THEM, the bio parents who spent years of grief and searching for their stolen daughter, if they tried to have her mother (kidnapper) prosecuted? For what? Unreal.

This was a good read. It moved a little slow at first but after some time, it really captures you and it was an excellent story which kept you wanting to go to the next chapter

Unbelievable Story

The narrator was good. I struggled with Connie's sense of entitlement. She never accepted that her actions were wrong.
