Publisher's Summary

The international best-selling series with over 5 million copies sold in the US alone!

Several years have passed since the apprentice and his master, Will and Halt, first met, and Will is finally a full-fledged Ranger with his own fief to look after. The fief seems sleepy - boring, even - until Lord Syron, master of a castle far in the north, is struck down by a mysterious illness. Joined by his friend Alyss, Will is suddenly thrown headfirst into an extraordinary adventure, investigating fears of sorcery and trying to determine who is loyal to Lord Syron. As Will battles growing hysteria, traitors, and most of all, time, Alyss is taken hostage, and Will is forced to make a desperate choice between his mission and his friend.

Perfect for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone, Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series, and George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series.

I'm not sure about this new narrator.

I have listened to John Keating narrate 13 books and got really used to his style and the way he read the story. I was a little surprised when I heard someone else was narrating this one and I'm not sure I like it. I'm not yet halfway through and I'm finding that I prefer John Keating over the person narrating this one. Not sure why there was a change. Might have to pay attention to who's narrating on future books.

Wonderful story. Bad narration.

I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend the previous 4 books but this narrator changed too much by way of style and pronunciation for my taste. My love of the story is the only thing that saved this production for me.

Good Book

The book was good. I did prefer the other reader rather than the new one. Didn't like the way it ended so abruptly and I didn't care for the music that they implemented on this 1 book.

Great story, not the best narration.

Not quite an adequate narration for the quality of the story and its characters. The story however is fantastic.

Love the series, hated the narrator

The only way to get through his “hissing” sss and his inability to hold a character’s voice was to listen at 1.25 x speed. No one speaks the way he does. It is unrealistic and it gets in the way of the quick whit and banter that commonly occurs in the books. I read the books many years ago and now I am enjoying listening to them. This book was not available in another narrator and I thought I’d give it a try. It was very difficult to listen to. If another narrator is available give them a try.

horrible narration

very disappointed that they switched narrators for this book. the guy seems to only know 4 or 5 voices and makes a lot of the characters sound like Kermit the frog, and makes will sound like a flamboyant 1800's southern gentleman.

Different Narrator.

Different narrator makes this dreadfully long. Odd pronunciations, odd changes in pitch, odd timing and horrible singing and dialogue between characters. Everyone has some type of accent. Hurry through this one.
