Publisher's Summary

She’s broken. She’s vulnerable. She’s just what Marco was looking for.

Stella Wiseman was a child TV star, but there’s nothing glamorous about her life now. Alone in her thirties, she’s lost her parents and her friends and she’s stuck in a dead-end job. But just as she hits rock bottom she meets Marco, a charismatic older man who offers to get her back on her feet. He seems too good to be true.

Is he?

She appreciates the money he lavishes on her. And the pills. But are the pills just helping her sleep, or helping her avoid her problems?

With Stella’s life still in freefall, Marco whisks her away to a secluded cottage where she is isolated from everyone except him. But the closer he pulls her, the worse she gets. He tells her it’s all in her head, and she just needs time away from the world.

No longer sure what’s real and what’s not, Stella begins to question whether she was wrong to trust Marco. Was she wrong to trust herself? Is the one person she thought was fighting for her survival actually her biggest threat?

Hit Pretty Close to Home

I can only hope people can realize how much truth there is in this book. And that if ever they find a friend succumbing to one such as Marco that they can intervene and save so many from the horrible outcome of something like this. This was well written and such a good story. Could picture every character. The narration was outstanding. Characters well defined through the various affects of their speech. Excellent. Will stick with me for a while.

Slow to build but great ending!

This book was interesting enough to keep me going through the slow build, probably because the narrator was so good. I thought she did a great job of male and female voices, better than most (for the male voices). I will look for other books by this author. The ending did explain things going on in the book very well and tied it all together. Overall I was not “riveted” but the book was good.

it's ok but...

I like most of the book and the story is interesting. We have the former child star meeting a man and they start a relationship. Many plot holes for me here, unless I just don't understand how these pills are supposed to work in real life. This got out of control in my opinion and makes no sense. Spoilers
This dummy just moved to a cabin in a small town? All by herself? Why? She has a cell phone, but can't call her "former friends"? What's up with all the biting? Is Marco stalking her when he's supposedly unreachable by phone? Narrator was great though.

Confusing

Story started out okay but simply went round in circles. Narrator however was very good.

Predictably the worst

The stupidy of the protagonist can make you go mad
The other characters are also plain
The story line boring and doesn’t move
This one was really bad, tried but could finish it.

Good psychological thriller

Hitting rock bottom and her career pretty much over, Stella’s self worth is non existent. Then she meets someone who makes her feel special...is this the real thing or something more sinister? This book will keep you on your toes as you follow Stella’s journey and her fight for survival.

went on way too long

I really wanted to like this. It moved so slow and parts were dragged on longer than needed. The narrator gave the men pretty much the same voice. If you want a believable plot, this is not it. I give her credit for trying to change it up a little three quarters of the way in. Overall, not bad but not the greatest work of literature ever.

I loved it!

I started it in the morning and spent the whole day listening. This is my first Daisy Pearce book and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.
A special mention regarding the narrator, I usually don't like Karen Cass' narration due to her very odd inclination at bizarre times, but that wasn't done much in this book, in fact I think this was her best reading ever!
