Story
Young wizards coming of age in a time of war... Will they be ready? Eynon was excited to leave his village and set off on his wander year. He’d turned sixteen today, and hoped for at least a few adventures. At high noon, he arrived a crossroads and saw a shimmer of silver in the mud. It was a thin and dirty oval, about the size of his palm. He washed it with squirts of water from his goatskin, then marveled at what was revealed.

Great series.
This book series is so engrossing I'm completely addicted. Sadly, while looking for a release date for book 3, I found out the author died of cancer in November while writing the final book, book 6. They are finishing it with another author. I hope they do the series justice. Looking forward to book 3 as this narrator is one of the best I've heard and the story is compelling. Sad that such a talented author had to die so young.

Nothing Much Here
This book is so terrible on a multitude of levels. There is nothing unique about the MC. The whole reason he is the main character is because he has a blood relation to someone who was important. He cannot do anything that his birth rite did not give him. There's no twist or reveal worth the time to go through this book and the character dynamics and personalities were so unimaginative it boggles my sense of reason. The author also acts like this high school introduced later is some elite school kids would die to get into. College is the only ivy league worth anything in life...why pretend a high school will truly wow anyone?
