Publisher's Summary

Hi, I'm Arthur Merlin. I used to be an ordinary guy, until a freak accident changed my life. Now my friends are afraid of me, and so am I. See, I developed superpowers: telepathy, pyrokinesis and telekinesis, to name a few.

The US government want to control me. But how do you control someone who can teleport anywhere he wants to in a blink of an eye? Fed up with their shenanigans, I head for the Institute of Psychic Research in London.

But something is pulling me; calling me, and I don't know what. I end up at Lake George, where sightings of The Lady of the Lake and Excalibur have been reported. With the help of Dr. Burns and Commander Dobie, we uncover the secrets of the lake, but they're more than anyone imagined.

What will I sacrifice to save the world from Excalibur?

SCI FI

Any additional comments?

This is a tale mixing legend and fantasy with a modern twist of super hero with different kinds of powers. The author delivers a good story with plenty of plots going on throughout. The writing was straightforward and smooth. I really enjoyed the characters and supporting characters.

An arousing tale of Merlin!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Secret of Excalibur to be better than the print version?

I think this book might have been better if I read it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Merlin... Arthur Merlin...(in the voice of Sean Connery)!!

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Slow down and take a breath. It felt like it was rushed. If it wasn't for the narrator abilities to create different voices for all the charters introduced, I would have not given Performance 3 stars.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nope, this was a fun read. I loved the story and who cares if there were so much sex involved. I think if I had those super power abilities I would have done the same things.

Any additional comments?

Here is another book that I am glad that i was given a copy to review. This is not what I normally would have read and I am so glad that I did. Was the story polish and smooth? No, but it didn't need to be because this was a fun read and if you are looking for a book to take your mind off the hustle and bustle this is the one. This is the kind of book I would love to read when I travel.

Holy Sword...Merlin

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really should have liked this book, based on my love of history and the Science Fiction/Fantasy genre, that being said I just couldn't get into it. I think it's because they crossed between Fantasy and Science Fiction, I like Fantasy more than SciFi, and they muddied the waters. So someone who likes space and aliens should like this book

Would you be willing to try another one of Lynn Roberts’s performances?

Maybe, but I'd want to hear a sample recording first. She was too stilted for my taste.

Any additional comments?

I am very torn about this book, I liked about half of it, then it went crazy over the top. I don't want to give away too much but most of the last half I was left scratching my head. I liked that it seemed like Excalibur was sentient, I thought that was a neat twist. I didn't like that Ruth, who was in lesbian relationships dropped her knickers for Arthur nearly immediately; who was practicing psychic "sexual" healing on her...that was just too corny for me. I know this wasn't set exactly in the "modern" times, late 1980s but still.

I would say to give this book a chance if you like Science Fiction, you might end up really enjoying it.

Like reading some pathetic nerds fantasy

What would have made The Secret of Excalibur better?

The story was stupid I could only take a few hours of it. The main character was too perfect. Every imaginable power all in one. Tall and attractive perfect super human meets ultra hot emotionally scarred female "scientist". Characters are over the top and completely non human. SUPER LAME WASTE OF MONEY

Wonderful Fantastical "Origins" Tale!

Any additional comments?

The Secret of Excalibur by Sahara Foley is a wonderful fantastical tale of the infamous sword, but set during modern times - or least in the 1980's. The story centers on Arthur Merlin, a once ordinary guy, who possesses superpowers like teleportation and pyrokinessis. Trying to make sense of his new found powers, he travels to the Institute of Psychic Research in England and there he meets Dr. Ruth Burns. Besides being an expert in psychic powers, she is also an expert on tales of Excalibur and "The Lady of the Lake" - the higher being who supposedly gave King Arthur his sword in a time of great need.

Ruth and Arthur have an instant attraction to each other that quickly leads to earth shattering sex (I'm not sure what sex had to do with story, but there are several relatively short sex scenes, some of which are comically written and thoroughly enjoyable). Together Arthur and Ruth travel to Lake George - the place where Excalibur and the Lady of the Lake stories supposedly originated - where they find the answers they were seeking. There are a few plot twists that caught me off guard in addition to hints of Excalibur having a mind of its own (similar to the "Sword of Gryffindor" of the Harry Potter stories).

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by by Lynn Roberts who did an admirable job. She clearly differentiated between male and female voices and changed the tempo in the performance when warranted. I received a copy of this audio in exchange for an unbiased review. Simply put, I highly recommend this audiobook!

Fun from start to finish!

This was a great tale, and one that sounds like there might be another adventure waiting to happen. I know that I did not get enough of Arthur. I also want to know if he still has Ruth's little habit of patting people to console them. It was such a tickle every time he noticed it.

I loved the voice of Lynn Roberts. His way of having each character have their own sound, with all of the different accents made it very fun to listen to. The only reason I hesitated to give him 5 stars was that I felt at times like it was read too fast, without small pauses or breaks between sentences. Some of the paragraphs felt like one long run-on sentence. But other than that, I really did enjoy Roberts way of tackling this tale.

All in all, I thank you for the adventure Sahara, and I am excited to see, what comes next!

Twisty tale with unexpected finish!

This story starts on an odd note and then proceeds right into the bizarre. I was unable to put it down!

Loved it

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found the story thankfully different.

What I didn’t like was the narrator which very nearly (at the beginning) of the book put me off! If he was using an American accent all ok but the switching to female, English and back again was excruciating.
