A new darkness is rising in Belterra. This dark and thrilling vampire romance—set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Serpent & Dove series—is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas.

Six months have passed since Célie took her sacred vows and joined the ranks of the Chasseurs as their first huntswoman. With her fiancé, Jean Luc, as captain, she is determined to find her foothold in her new role and help protect Belterra. But whispers from her past still haunt her, and a new evil is rising—one that Célie herself must vanquish, unless she falls prey to the darkness.

I wanted to love this book. The story line was great, performance was great, the main female character was supremely juvenile and never grew from her experiences. She literally gave me anxiety.

I wanted to love it

The storyline was a fun listen overall, though it started off a bit slow. Thankfully, the pacing picked up as the plot progressed, which helped keep things interesting.

That said, I struggled to fully enjoy the story due to the FMC's character. While she constantly made choices in an attempt to appear “brave,” many of them came across as impulsive rather than empowering. Her internal dialogue didn’t quite align with the image of a strong, grounded heroine, which made it difficult to connect with her.

I also found it hard to believe in the chemistry between the FMC and MMC—it felt underdeveloped and lacked emotional depth.

After seeing so many glowing reviews, I was expecting to be blown away, but for me, it was just an okay listen.

It was just OKAY

I loved Celine’s character development in this story. Cant wait for the next book to find out what happens next!

I loved how in the end the villain gets what he was working for. The cliff hanger and all that follows and starts. The book was hard to read at first which is why I downloaded the audio book but before I knew it it was breath taking and swept me away. I love this book. Very much.

I love that the villain wins

I don't get why people are hating on this story or Celie to be more specific. I loved every bit of this book and what was done for her character development! The blending of characters from the previous series with new characters was done beautifully. I am so happy that she's kind of found her own place and people outside of what had been decided for her her entire life. If you read the last series, then you were able to see her kind of start to come out of her shell, but she still was following someone else's path and not being true to herself. I feel that as women, we tend to let others make us feel as if we always need to prove ourselves or let them define who we should be for us and to see her break out of that place and come into her own was absolutely beautiful. For the trilogy I waited till all three were out before I started reading and right now I'm really wishing I had done the same for this duo series! That cliffhanger/epilogue has me so anxious for the next part!

We love a sheltered woman coming into her own!!

This book is deliciously dark and I could not put out down! Hopefully the next comes out soon!

This book cover is so beautiful and the sprayed edges are so fancy. The story itself just didn’t measure up for me. At Chapter 19 I remained bored. In fairness, I think this would’ve been much better had I realized it was a spinoff of another series. There was clearly a lot that happened with Celie before this story started. I don’t plan to continue the series but the book wasn’t bad. It was middle of the road for me. It definitely picked up at the end and I do like the characters. I think it’s just not my thing overall.

This is a spinoff. Read the prior series first
