Publisher's summary

April 2020, Twin Falls, Idaho. A serial killer is on the loose. A nameless man is kidnapping young women from their own homes, taking them out of the city to kill them before returning their bodies to random locations around the city. Detective Maria Gonzalez heads up the investigation but has very few leads to pursue. As time passes and fears rise that the killer might strike again with a fifth victim, Maria turns to Venator—an investigative genetic genealogy company—in the hope that they can identify the killer from his DNA alone before he has the chance to take yet another life. Despite her initial reticence to take on the company’s first ever live case, Madison Scott-Barnhart and her team in Salt Lake City agree to try to reveal the identity of this barbaric serial killer. In the midst of the global pandemic that has closed the Venator office and posed both personal and professional problems for Madison, time is running out on this case.

This is the second novel in the Venator Cold Case series. Although it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story, for the best experience, begin your journey with The Chester Creek Murders.

Perfect for the Genealogy Addict

Mystery, genealogy and learning all at once. Several story lines going on at the same time. I listened to this book because I enjoyed the first one so much. Learning how to incorporate DNA research into my genealogy has not been easy, but this gives some good guidance while enjoying a story.

10/10

10/10 I can’t wait for another Venator case. Nathan really does the research needed to write a fiction about FGG.

Very compelling story

Another great story. I love listening to the methodology used in solving the crimes. Using SLC landmarks lends to the believability. Using the term ‘rock sac’ instead of ‘back pack’ or ‘book bag’ is a nod to the author being British.

Great Story

Greatly enjoyed the story, and I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. That being said the only down side for me was the narration. I had trouble all the way through the story trying to decide which character was speaking. The narrator just couldn't do male voices.

Even better than the first

The story has excitement, character development, plot movement and the bad guy is caught by the good guys. Hooray!
Even a cliff-hanger makes me anxious for the next in series.
The reader makes me feel and care about the characters and their work and life battles, while handling what could be difficult, the many rote renderings of geneological findings, interestingly enough to make me want to do this kind of research.
Kudos to author and reader!

Love this new series from NDG!

A longtime fan of all of NDG books and I have to say that this series is the next level. The characters are interesting and their back stories are intriguing on their own. Put together with solving cold cases using DNA and you have a winner. Even though I sometimes get lost in the DNA jargon and specifics, I feel that I’ve actually learned useful information to help in my own research. Also love the way he tied Morton into this group. More, please!

Another Awesome Story!

I was so sad when the story ended. I love all of Nathan’s books. I enjoy them so much that it’s sad when they end. Thank you for such a good book!
