On days when he could barely get out of bed, he was able to push aside the endless loop of dark thoughts running inside his brain long enough to win a game. But as soon as he got back home, the agonizing cycle started all over again. And it continued, until finally he was able to confide in a team trainer who helped him get the professional treatment he needed. Diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, Hirsch was able to embark on the rocky road to recovery. As one of the first professional athletes to talk openly about mental health, Hirsch wrote about his OCD for the Players’ Tribune. His piece remains one of their most-read articles ever.

Amazing book if your struggling with Mental Illness

Transparent, raw true life story of what mental illness looks like through the eyes of an NHL goalie. Corey doesn’t hold back as he walks the reader through both the highs and lows of living with mental illness. A must read for those struggling or know of someone struggling.

Unfortunately familiar to many.

Describes the draw of many goalies to the position, such as myself, the turmoil associated with the position and the underlying mental illness that may draw us to goaltending.
Very brave. Very telling. Cathartic.

Tremendous story, and Corey Hirsch’s honesty and courage may well save lives. His message is powerful.

How is it possible that so many names are mispronounced? Some of those butchered are among the most famous in hockey history. It’s distracting and unprofessional to the point where it seriously detracts from a story that needs to told. Those who are responsible ought to be embarrassed and need to fix it.
