"The Rising series has been brewing in me for years. In fact, after I finished my Fantasyland series several years ago, I wanted to dive right into the world across the Green Sea.
I’ve been utterly obsessed with Cassius and Elena, Mars and Silence, True and Farah, and Aramus and Ha-Lah. They’d come to me often, demanding their tales be told. That’s a writer’s brand of torture: sitting on stories for years without being able to tell them.
Finally having these books out there, spreading my wings by writing them as a serial and having them produced in audio in such a grand scale with such a talented cast of narrators, I’m beside myself with glee!
But more, I couldn’t even begin to know where these stories would lead me. The deep dive I’d have to take in creating this new world. The messages these characters needed to convey. The often excruciatingly difficult paths they had to walk and walking that path beside them.
It was a true honor. It was also a highlight of my writing career. And as such, I’m beyond excited for people to meet these characters and hear their stories."

The story is exciting and gritty. Be prepared that it starts out very dark and there is some subject matter that could be distressing. Hang in there because it is complex and there is beauty and fierceness, and light overcoming dark. The romance is unpredictable with varying obstacles between the different couples. These characters are very strong willed and deeply layered, so as you journey through the story you will learn more about them as they evolve and learn to love each other and how to care for their people. Once enemies are now allied against darkness itself and not only do they need to come together to defeat The Beast, but they must overcome political unrest, warring factions, conflicting personalities, all while learning humility, forgiveness, and the power of love.
I was thoroughly engrossed from the very beginning and enjoyed each new book in the series!! Just when I thought I knew what would happen, how it would play out, or who would do what - I was surprised and the story would pivot. New peoples, new magic, and new personalities are introduced regularly. All bets are off. Characters who seem to have lost themselves will be redeemed in believable ways that don't seem to be redemption...until it happens. There is a very unlikely hero who took me by surprise and even brought me to tears!
The narrators do a fantastic job across the board with all of the varying characters of different ages, genders, accents, and peoples. They really deliver meaningful performances to pull you into the humor, the sadness, battle, excitement, suspense, and - yes - the romance and seriously sexy scenes. This series includes graphic sex in multiple configurations (m/f, m/m, m/m/f, m/f/m, etc.) so have a towel ready for some seriously hot scenes between fierce characters.
The different realms each have challenges to overcome, rife with political intrigue, greedy nobles, predators, and beneath them all is The Rising. There are some potentially triggering subjects in this story, so proceed with caution. No spoilers, but there are instances of rape and nonconsensual sex. There are some dark deeds perpetrated by the sinister characters, so be prepared.
I listened in AE, but would gladly spend a credit on each book. Definitely recommend!! I will paste this review to all 4 books because they belong together.

The beast however, wants to win this time and will do anything in its quest.
The full cast really brings this story to life and I'm almost sorry that it had to end...
