Some believe the old adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire". Well, in some instances the smoke is just a coverture for secrets. Dark ones.

Ragee is a successful R&B singer, music composer, and actor who shot to fame and celebrity at rocketing speed. He has the voice, the troubled soul, the seductive look, and the alluring mystique, all of which give him the traditional packaging of a soulful rhythm and blues singer. But he also has an unshakable stigma attached to his stardom that won’t seem to go away.

Wynter Blue thought she was taking control of her world the day she up and quit her job. As a social service professional, she was done with helping afflicted adult men to right their paths in life. She was ready to live for her. Finally. She wanted to pursue her dreams and stretch the bounds of her creativity. Little did she know, the day she walked out of her job was the very one she’d run into the shroud of smoke. His smoke.

Awfully familiar with secrets herself, Wynter questions if she can handle Ragee’s darkness while trying to bring him into the light of truth.

Disclaimer: The Rhythm of Blues is book one of a two-book series. This series is for mature audiences only. This installment is a full-length novel containing profanity, erotica, and sensitive sexual content. It ends on a cliffhanger. If you do not like dark, racy romance, this literary venture is not for you.

YO! I read the reviews on this book before ordering and I was really intrigued. Let me tell you I was not disappointed! The audio was a bit questionable, but I could totally look past that because the story kept me wanting to keep listening. I was shaking my head, talking to myself, smiling, and just in awe! I loved Ragee’s spirituality! And the way his grandmother spoke into his life. Wynter was so patient. I liked the way their love grew even though it was out of some messed up circumstances. They were so passionate. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the way the story unfolded I was kinda shocked. I was mad the way the book ended and the next book is not on Audible!

Astonishing

Overall Enjoyed the audio version of the book. Want to hear book two now! A little work needed on parts of the audio background quality but both narrators did a good job.

Excellent

Reading this story could be felt, but hearing it took you to places your own reading doesn't! I enjoyed this audible retell of my favorite LB story!

So I read the Muted Love series, and I find it very Strange that Tori is not mentioned in this book. Especially since they were supposed to be so close.

This book starts extremely slow ( like the first half) with a lot of unnecessary dialogue. I expected more, I’ll read the second part just to see if Love can bring this back to life. But, I can’t say that I really care about what happens with them. Ragee has so much trauma, but so does Winter, and it seems that the author completely glossed over the fact that a 27yo sexing a 15yo is also rape. Winter has her own trauma to acknowledge and deal with. They may be better off apart. And a Myesha started off likable, but turned out to be a codependent head case.

As others have mentioned production was horrible, and the female narrator was unable to do voices, and pretty laughable when she tried. Zakiya, please learn to do voices or don’t do them at all.

Hmmmm….disappointed

So glad to finally read Ragee’s story. Omg I want to drop kick every in his life. And Wynter’s as well. Myles did a great job as Ragee. Zakiya was terrible. Her fake laughing in the middle of her dialogue made me want to swallow my AirPods. Her accent was perfect for Wynter but her narration made me skip a lot of the scenes. Listening to Book 2 now.

Wow such a heartbreaking story

I love this story and this author. The way Love wrote the story was full of detail, and painted a vivid picture. I liked the narrators, but the female narrator needs to invest into sound proofing. It sounded like she recorded her parts in front of a fan. Other than that I really enjoyed the audible version of this book. I can't wait for part 2.

Very good despite....

This was a reread for me. I had sworn off audibles. I tried a few in the past and could not focus, remember and had to continually replay. Listening to this book made me realize that it was NOT audiobooks that I didn't like, it was the narrator. I had no problem following and staying in the moment with this book. The language was clear to understand, etc. I loved the way they made Pastor McKinnon sound. She sounded like a seasoned mother in Zion. I could feel all the feels with Ragee and Wynter even though their story was very dark.

For me, the only downsides were: the long delays in the reading, I didn't know if it had stopped, or it was at the end of the chapter, so I had to keep checking. Then the splicing was a bit noticeable. At one point, I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what was going to go down and missed the build up because of the splice. When it came back in, the tense had shifted. And lastly, this is just what I visualized in my head, Ragee and Wynter were both singers, I expected the narrators to be able to blow. I was underwhelmed by their singing voices.

Belvin is my true favorite author. I have never read an author that makes me go dig deep and think about stories on a larger scale and peel back multiple layers. I own all of her books in Kindle and paperback. I have many authors that I've read almost their whole body of works but she is the only one that I own everything. Now it looks like I'll be investing in audiobooks as well. This is her first of many so I know that the only way we are going is up.

This book was wonderful. The story, the backstory the characters & their complexities…all came to life.

But the performance of the women was horrible. The story is amazing but the quality recording was horrendous.
