Publisher's Summary

Move over Bridget Jones, here comes Mimi Finnegan! Thirty-four-year-old Mimi Finnegan is the third of four daughters and in her eyes, by far, the most unremarkable. She has no singular accomplishment that can stand up to any of her sisters. And if that isn't enough, she's the only single sibling in her family. Mimi's sisters decide that it's time she gets serious about husband hunting, so they begin a campaign to find Mr. Right for her. Considering her most recent dating encounters include a night club owner who stuffs bratwurst in his pants and a WASPy trust fund baby, living happily under his mother's thumb, Mimi is more than ready to meet the one. Enter celebrated British novelist Elliot Fielding. Sexual tension and anger heat up between the duo and it isn't until Mimi discovers that Elliot is almost engaged to another that she realizes she is head-over-heels in love with him. The journey will make you laugh, cry, and want to pull your hair out from frustration! Mimi eventually learns that she is quite remarkable in her own right and never needed to worry that she lived in her sister's shadows. The Reinvention of Mimi Finnegan is the perfect laugh-out-loud, feel-good book for any woman who has ever felt that she wasn't good enough.

What a Bunion!

Wow, this was a fun listen. It has totally changed my perspective of bunions and Edith Bunker that's for sure!

Mimi Finnegan has a family that loves her and wants her to find love. Her journey to that goal is not an easy one but it is an adventure that is full of surprises. I have to admit that I did question many of Mimi's choices and for most of the story I wasn't particularly fond of (the hero) Elliott but by the end he grew on me. It's a journey of life and love that is delivered with emotion and humor. The narration was very well done....especially Edith Bunker. Lol

(Note: For those who want to know..... This book does include sexual encounters and adult language, etc.)

I was voluntarily provided a free review copy of this audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher and would like to thank them for the opportunity.

Really?

I’m sorry, but the protagonist/narrator and love interest are both completely unlikeable and deplorable in this story anchored primarily on deceit disguised by a love story that happens over a 5 day time period. “Edith Bunker” (while an attempt at being cutesy funny) is just plain weird and off putting. It’s difficult to route for any of the characters accept for Kevin, Muffy and Richard.

And the idea that Mimi is overweight and in WW is just some irrelevant plot point tossed in to make her relatable when really it has no relevance to the story at all. She is 170 lbs and tall. And has 3-4 people lusting after her through the entirety of the book. There is no struggle at all. Just a bunch of lying, backstabbing and then a happy ending.

Terribly thought out.

Tries to Hard

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Not listen to it.

Would you listen to another book narrated by BettySoo?

No

Do you think The Reinvention of Mimi Finnegan needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Please, no. One installment is more than enough. It was agonizingly tedious. Way too long and overly dramatic for what was basically a modern take on the Cinderalla fable.

Absolutely Delightful!!!

The author and narrator were both new to me, and they are extremely talented. I do not remember laughing so much while listening to a book. The narrator added so much to the book! I loved this story and related to it on many levels. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion it.

Laugh-out-loud

If you like over-the-top characters and laugh-out-loud chick-lit, then this is the book for you. I listened to the audiobook edition and the narrator nailed it. She was the perfect match to this story. Light and fun - a brilliant chunk of escapism.

so SO Much Fun

Mimi and her sisters reminded me so much of me and my sisters I could relate to all the family stuff: the pretty one, the smart one, the athletic one... the story is a lot of fun. I particularly loved how Mimi describes the writers of her life and convoluted love interests. The narrator is perfect.

Chuckling chicklit beach read!

If you could sum up The Reinvention of Mimi Finnegan in three words, what would they be?

Hilarious
Chicklit
Delightful

Who was your favorite character and why?

Edith, the bunion!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, the narration matched the pace of the story but the tone was a little pitchy. Good voice inflection with voice changes.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the fact that Mimi was taking charge in making the change in her life and not wallowing.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the conversations that Mimi had with her bunion, Edith. We all know we talk to ourselves!

Matter of taste

If you're looking to relax and smile here and there, this book is ok. I listened to it on a road trip and didn't end up being too emotionally involved. It felt a bit repetitive and very predictable. For me, it was just ok. For others, it might be just what they're looking for. The performance was great.
