Suspecting that the victim may have come from continental Europe, Colbeck and Leeming take the case to France where a new railway is being built by a British contractor. But in a new country the detectives face new problems. Anti-British feeling is rife and Colbeck and Leeming must put their own lives in danger to pick up the murderer's trail....

Interesting plot, but with bits of similarity to first 2 books

Interesting plot with some lessons as usual on the history of England railway system.
However, I do find some similarities to first 2 book, eg Sergeant Leeming getting another bad beat up,(book 2) and how the villain was revealed out of the blue (book 1). The latter especially took the ‘whodunnit’ out of the mystery. It became more of how would the inspector prove it, which wasn’t that fun.
The romantic relationship between Inspector and Madeleine felt weak and lacked sparks too.

I am enjoying this series but a little long. Mystery good and a long journey to find answers. Narration great.

Another wonderful story! Highly recommend to anyone who likes a good series. There are 21 books and I am really enjoying the series so far.

would not recommend this book. i couldn't get into it at all, foul language, not interesting at all.
