Publisher's summary

Hip-hop is America’s greatest export. In the 50 years since its inception, it has influenced everything from cereal to sneakers, pizza, and politics. But before there was hip-hop, there was jazz. Before jazz, there was the blues. Prior to the blues, there were spirituals. And even preceding spirituals was storytelling set to the beat of African drums.

If you believe God is the progenitor of everything, then music has to fall under that umbrella. Thus, making hip-hop a God thing. But how a thing starts doesn’t mean that’s how it’ll remain.

The RAPture is a study in hip-hop theology that navigates the listener through hip-hop’s origins to its impact on society and how religion has its hands in all of it.

The RAPture takes us on a journey that shows us how clearly defining our relationship with God and hip-hop, makes it possible for us to love both.

Fire!

I really enjoyed the way Pastor Mike used his knowledge and love for music to deliver this message. I respect the fact he was honest about his relationship with music and he wasn’t afraid to express that. As a music lover I was able to pick up on his musical references and gain some biblical insights. I would recommend this book for all!
