When Gervase Frant, Seventh Earl of St Erth, returns at last from Waterloo to his family seat at Stanyon, he enjoys a less than welcome homecoming. Only Theo, a cousin even quieter than himself, is there to greet him - and when he meets his stepmother and young half-brother he detects open disappointment that he survived the wars. But the dangers of the Lincolnshire countryside are quite different to those of the battlefield.

Georgette Heyer was the most successful and best-loved novelist of her day and The Quite Gentleman displays all the skills which won the hearts of her large and enduring audience.

The plot in this story is quite good. You may catch on quickly or figure out the mystery later. Her characters are fully developed, also. The narrator wasn't bad and did manage the characterizations well.

This Georgette Heyer novel is, as always, excellent. The narrator for this book was spot on in my opinion. The voices were distinct but not weird.

Great recording

I love this book so I was hesitant about how it might be read. The performance was amazing -- a lot of men reading historical fiction read older women like Dame Edna. This reader got every single character JUST right. I'm really sad he wasn't the reader on Cotillion too.

Voice actor is BRILLIANT

I really enjoy Heyer and in many ways this is a good example. it is as much mystery as romance. the characters and dialogue are what we expect. That a young man's VERY BAD behavior is explained (not excused) by his youth and the young woman's "flirtatious" ways may make some readers want to skip this one.

good but troubling
