Great Victoria Holt

I loved all of her books. I was sad when she died and there would be no more of her books.

Fabulous!

This book was awesome! It is definitely a Gothic mystery/romance. It reminds me a lot of the story, Rebecca, with little bits of a Downton Abbey type feeling. Excellent listen!

Timeless

I enjoy all of Victoria Holt’s novels. I’m so glad that the Audible versions give a new generation a chance to learn about her work and an older generation the opportunity to enjoy them again.

I love Victoria Holts books

Purely a love story but with a mystery intertwined. Simply delivered but entertaining. If you like this kind of story you should read this.

old fashioned gothic romance

what I liked about this book as well as Victoria holt,s other novels is that the heroines are strong and capable without being overbearing. I love the setting, in a huge mansion. of course. I first read Victoria Holt over 40 years ago and I still enjoy her work. it is a touch old fashioned and I'm not sure that young readers would appreciate it. But I am in my 50s and I most definitely enjoyed the story, and the creative and delicate unfolding of it.

Great Read

Enjoyed this book very much , great twists and turns as you struggle to understand the mysteries of Pendorac and its Brides. I find I am more and more frustrated with Nia e and weak female leads however although I tolerated this one ok. I would recommend this read to anyone!

Love The Mysterious Brilliant Storyline! A MUST!

Favel Farrington was so delightful and positive. It was amazing to listen to this story. The tragedy she goes through is unbearably, losing her mom and dad was sad. Her dad knowing who Roc Pendorric was before she married him was a little sad too. I loved there were children twins who kept her on her toe after moving to the idyllic Mediterranean island of Capri. So glad she found her grandpa, but then he dies too. I loved how the story went into detail about her life and the children of her sister-in-law. The story goes on to end in a very good way even though she found out about the two older twin sisters! What a brilliant book. I absolutely love her stories of these strong women.

The end will surprise you and you will not want to shut the audio or put the book down!! If I could give it 100 stars I would!! :-)

More Victoria Holt ! But a different narrator

Love Victoria Holt ! More of her backlog, please. But this narrator just doesn’t do justice to the prose. Please, find another reader…
Maybe Karen Cass, British voice, highly under-rated.

The book could have been shorter.

I like what the gypsy lady said to Favel. “You be awful rich, Mrs. Pendorric. But you be-n’t very bright.”

The author must have meant for the reader to like at least a few of her characters. She has them say what the main character feels from the other characters but I’m not picking up actual feelings from any of them. Sure one of the tropes for a Gothic Romance is Mystery. However the human connection felt contrived.
It seemed like, eight hours and thirty minutes in, we were finally going to get an idea of how Roc feels toward his wife, but the author postponed that again until the lest few minutes. If it weren’t for the “case closed” vibe, I’d say there were issues left untouched.

The main character just annoyed me, especially after ten hours and twenty some minutes of her not using her brain.

One good thing about the book is that it was clean.
