Publisher's Summary

Jake Sharp resides in his own personal hell. The ex-SAS sniper was distracted from duty once before, and the consequences were devastating - both personally and professionally. He vowed never to let that happen again.

The job of bodyguard to Camille Logan isn't the kind of distraction from his demons he should take. Women and Jake don't mix well, yet the lesser of two evils seems to be protecting the heiress, whose life is threatened as a result of her father's ruthless business dealings.

He thinks he knows her type: Beautiful and spoiled, with her father's bank balance to fund her lifestyle. But he soon discovers the real Camille - warm, compassionate, determined to be independent and happy after struggling with past mistakes. Now, his duty to protect her turns into something deeper than a well-paid job, no matter how hard he fights it. He needs absolution. He comes to need Camille. But he knows he can't have both.

For fans of Maya Banks, The Protector delivers the all-consuming romance and devastating alpha hero that make a Jodi Ellen Malpas novel an irresistible, passionate listen.

Critic Reviews

"Every kiss, every sexy scene, every word between this pair owned a piece of my soul. I could read this book a hundred times and still react as if it was the first time. The Protector is a top 2016 fave for me." (Audrey Carlan, number one best-selling author of The Calendar Girl series)

Maybe it needed Edita....

Not near as good as This Man and One Night series, whether it was the different narrators or not, the story lacked the originality and passion that her other books had. I was very disappointed.

Same Ol' love story

I struggled to finish it. The female narrator's voice was way too old sounding for the character's supposed age. The same old damsel in distress story is so obvious and totally overused. The introspection was over the top dramatic. There was no ordinary conversation between the lovers, just conversation about their love/lust for each other. It was absurd to think that they had anything other than a physical and lustful connection. Bullocks!

Not what I expected

I absolutely fell in love with Jesse Ward, This man trilogy was more than I could imagine. the writing was extraordinary. then she wrote the "one night" trilogy and I couldn't have imagined it being better, it blew my socks off. Miller Hart was by far the best character I have ever read about. that being said, the protector fell short of my extremely high expectations. Jodis writing style is one of a kind, one of a magnificent kind. The Protector was good, but not her best.

Simply Perfect

This was a joy from the first word to the last. Great story, realistic angst, strong characters, and superb narration. There was action and sizzle, a great love story and even some laughs. This is one I'll listen to again. Thanks Jodi.

Not a bad story but after reading her previous work I felt disappointed with this one.

The story had so many possibilities, but fell flat

I think it would be hard for Malpas to top"This Man" series, it was original and very well written. This story had such potential, I don't know if she got tired or if the editing ruined her story line. Either way this story started out with such potential ... had some very hot love scenes... and then when it should have climaxed with the heroines rescue ... it flat lined. I think it was a well written story, but the build up was lacking. Overall it is a good story... the narration was okay ... the characters were developed .... overall this story was just okay for me. This does not mean I will not rush out to buy the next one. I will. I just want her to write to her full potential! It is worthy of a listen just don't expect a masterpiece!

Dissapointed...

Would you try another book from Jodi Ellen Malpas and/or Alexandra Baldwin and Owen MacMahon ?

Not if Owen MacMahon is the narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

Still listening, but am so unhappy with the male narration I had to write a review.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Alexandra Baldwin and Owen MacMahon ?

Alexandra Baldwin has done a wonderful job so far. I am so dissapointed in the male narrator, Owen MacMahon. I would love to hear the British version of Sebastian York as Jake, or Edita Brychta would work. She did a splendid job with the This Man series.

Any additional comments?

I haven't finished listening to the book yet and am not sure if I can. I love Jodi Ellen Malpass but would give a pass on this book on Audible because of the male narrator. His voice just doesn't match the description of the sexy bodyguard.

Least favorite JEM book

I am a huge JEM fan, but I will say, The Protector was my least favorite of her books. The characters professed their love for each other too quickly. The timeline in the book is a little vague, but it seemed rushed and it seemed like only about a week after meeting that they were both madly in love and saying things like, “everything I have is now yours.”
Maybe if the narrator had been different it wouldn’t have grated on my so much. “Cammy” was too drawn-out dramatic. And Jake’s accent was too pedestrian and cockney. I want my leads to be full of power and raw masculinity. Jake’s back story was good but the accent didn’t match. Not as suave as I have come to expect from all the other JEM leads I love so much.
I found myself rolling my eyes a couple of times in this story, but I’m still a fan and I’ll eagerly read anything JEM writes.

It was just okay for me

The H's constant self deprication was off-putting. The h's contradictory spoiled brat vs. decent misunderstood person also made her less than lovable.

The male narrator sounded MUCH older than the H's age of 35. The female narrator's range seemed limited and it made it difficult at times to determine the difference in which character was speaking. Therefore, the dialog was quite confusing at times.
