Acerca de esta escucha

While dissolute bishops and priests around the world grab headlines for their untoward words and deeds, too many other unfruitful priests minister as little more than glad-handing bachelors doing social service work.

Top and bottom, is this the church that Christ intended? Are these the priests we need?

"No!" cries author Kevin Wells in this compelling audiobook that showcase how heroic priests can faithfully tread the narrow path of holy self-sacrifice first blazed by the apostles themselves. From scores of insightful interviews with modern priests, exorcists, seminary formators, and even disillusioned laity, Wells here draws forth a blueprint for priestly holiness that can once again fill our church with priests abounding with sincere, supernatural faith, on fire with God's love, and moved by the irresistible impulse to save souls, no matter the cost to themselves.

Listening to this book will deepen your own faith and help you understand what all priests, by their vocation, are consecrated and called to be. Giving a copy to your parish priest will help him and encourage him as he strives to become a member of the small but growing contingent of holy priests we need.

I think this book is phenomenal. While I can’t say I really like the title (one man has is and will save the Church, and that is Jesus Christ), I get the point the author is trying to make. The Church is in the same dilapidated repair as when a young Saint Francis first heard the voice of Christ speaking from the crucifix in a run down and forgotten church. The author summons men, namely priests, to heroic virtue as the only way of rebuilding Christ’s wounded church. Drawing from powerful witnesses and gut wrenching testimonies from his own encounters, Kevin wells lays out a thought provoking method of holiness. If every priest were to take seriously the words of this layman, who loves the church, loves priests, and so wishes to see them rise to the occasion... boy, what a fire we would ignite.

Aside from a few mispronunciations by the reader (not the author), I wholeheartedly recommend this book to men and especially to my brother priests.

I’m a priest and...

I have always respected priests. This book has depended that respect. I imagine that every priest should read this book along with those considering this vocation.

I loved this book. The author paints a beautiful picture of priestly holiness. His uncle, Father Thomas Wells, influenced him greatly. Well done!

Beautiful book

The message is fantastic. The author often beats around the bush getting to the point, & worse still, refers to the principle figure in the book (Msgr Wells) by his first name: terribly inappropriate. The narration is dreadful. If one writes a Catholic book, it ought to be read by a Catholic narrator. This guy constantly mispronounced Catholic words...pretty much all of them. It was annoying, but I still liked the book, because the message is excellent & well developed.

Good Book, Poor Performance

Highest praise for Kevin Wells' The Priests We Need. This is not a scolding book, not a broadside against the Church or V2, and you will not find anecdotes of bad behavior here. This isn't necessarily an instruction book for seminarians, but it is wonderful to think that a seminarian might be reading it, or even better, that a young man might be moved by it to discern a call! By presenting Fr. Tommy Wells and those lucky enough to call him a friend, you will see how there is no need for criticism- unless the very presence of a good man puts the lukewarm to shame. The priest we need is manly, truthful, and prayerful. Not a bachelor priest, not a "change agent" (if by that you mean a SJW with a collar), but a man whose mission is to save souls, who wakes, prays and works 16 hours fulfilling that vocation. Think of St. Jean Vianney. In this book, Wells will move you to tears telling you of the great depth and faith of his uncle, and of the lives (and deaths) of those who knew him. The narration is excellent.

Engaging.

Challenge Priests with Love...because one man can change the direction of a person's life when they share the Truth, Love, and Faith. This is a wonderful narrative with multiple stories challenging all those mediocre priests who pander to the world, and their flocks while failing to pour themselves out for the sake of souls. I always worried about one of our priests, Fr. David Hust, who never seemed to rest, but now I understand that when someone's immortal soul is in jeopardy you don't rest, you FIGHT, you LEAD, you RALLY and FIGHT ON! If you are involved in Vocations through your parish committee or Serra International I recommend you read and share this book. We the laity must do better to support a culture of vocations within the family so the next generation of priests will fight for our kids and their kids.

It is clear the narrator, though he has a lovely voice, is not Catholic. His constant mispronunciations of common Catholic saint names or words, was distracting. Very surprising he wasn’t given a primer first, or that no one listened to it before release. Nevertheless the book was amazing and helped me, a lay person, tremendously.

Powerful thesis, marred only by mispronunciations

This powerful work articulates the cry and longing of the Laity for more heroic priests. Heartfelt and extremely well done.

These heroic priests need our prayers.

The author Kevin Wells knocks this one out of the park! His ability to tell the amazing true story of his his uncle lead men (and women) to become better versions of themselves through Christ . . . as men real fathers in their parishes, families, and in everyday life.

What an Amazing Book!
