Publisher's summary

The Bible is a piercing drama, a tale of prophets and wandering spirits, heroic mothers and flashing swords, cosmic mountains, and a dry, shadowy Sheol. It is a true story that defines the nature and purpose of reality, and its claims are astonishing.

But few modern listeners experience the Bible that way.

In this groundbreaking audiobook, celebrated storyteller Blaine Eldredge draws upon years of research to illuminate the story of the Bible through the lives of six kingly characters. From Adam to Jesus, Eldredge combines thrilling retellings of famous stories with cutting-edge scholarship and robust theology to explore topics such as the Bible’s picture of evil, its sophisticated supernatural worldview, and its complex picture of the human condition.

The result is a stunning portrait of Jesus of Nazareth, the king and God and sacrifice who conquered death and overthrew the spiritual powers of this world and whose offer remains open to all: Follow me, come home to reality, and heal your humanity.

Critic reviews

"The depth of research, generosity of spirit, and brilliance of biblical imagination make this remarkable book one of my favorite reads of a lifetime. I confess I need to see Jesus more alive and present. Blaine brings the presence of Jesus through the stories of the Hebrew Bible with such a vivid, lush, and compelling craft that as each chapter ended, I couldn’t stop." (Dan B. Allender, PhD)

An exciting listen!

I enjoyed this so much, the turning of a history book back into a story with emotion and narration to help you see the Holy Bible as it might have been. And the extras were just as fascinating!

Blaine’s passion

I loved Blaine Eldredge’s passion in both the writing AND the audio presentation. Learned some things… and got to ruminate on others.

Glad to hear there is more to come.

Like discovering fire

Mind-blowingly revelatory. It fills out the story of God and redemption like nothing I have heard before.

Blaine Eldredge’s narration is special

I don’t know if I can ever listen to another audiobook again. The way Blaine tells a story, portraying each character with a different tone and dialect made it so immersive. I have a feeling the next audiobook I listen to will be disappointing. lol Can’t wait for the next book. 5 stars isn’t enough to review this book.

The story telling is phenomenal

The way the author writes and tells the story of the Bible lifts it off the pages and turns a two dimensional flat historical account into a three dimensional story that adds color and context and most importantly allows me to stand there in the midst oft it all. It makes it real to all
My senses. Outstanding

Inspiring Message and Beautiful Storytelling

The Paradise King is stunning! It moved me to tears through the message of our Father and journey Eldredge takes us on through His Word. Eldrege’s treatment of these stories is beautiful, and his voice is lovely to the ear. This book and Eldredge’s telling is a balm to the soul. Come, Paradise King! Come!

The accessibility of theology

I absolutely loved the narrative elements placed into the admittedly dry stories we Christians have cherished all our lives. It opened my eyes to whole worlds to these real people. The author’s reading of the book was wonderful, adding the life he wished to see these stories. Thank you so much for this.

A fresh telling of the old Old Story

I loved the fresh perspective of the familiar story. Often in the telling of this I was moved to tears for the sheer beauty and majesty of the person of YHVH as well as his inscrutable wisdom on display in the Holy Scriptures.
This was cool to see all the divine counsel worldview research pulled into a gripping story.
I loved the study, the research, the depth, the allusions made, the dots connected. The pulling together of the whole story.
Not a fan of the narrators voice. Picky, i know…try as I might, i kept longing for a deeper, more mellow tone without as much upspeak.
