On the first day of September 1939, everything starts to fall apart. After the Germans invade Kaluszyn, Joanna must make a decision that will test her limits and take her on a sinister journey into the unknown. Will she, Aleksander, Jasper, and her grandparents be able to leave Kaluszyn before the war arrives there? Will they survive? Will she see her father again?

I loved how this audiobook brought history to life in such a compelling way. It's clear that the author did their research and put a lot of thought into creating a believable world for their characters to inhabit.
