Now with a new afterword, Garrett M. Graff’s instant New York Times best seller The Only Plane in the Sky, the comprehensive oral history of September 11, 2001 called “history as its most immediate and moving” (Jon Meacham) and “remarkable...a priceless civic gift” (The Wall Street Journal).

Hailed as “remarkable...incredibly evocative and compelling” (The Washington Post) and “oral history at its finest” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), Garrett M. Graff’s The Only Plane in the Sky is the most vivid and human portrait of the September 11 attacks yet, comprised of never-before-published transcripts, recently declassified documents, and original interviews and stories from nearly 500 government officials, first responders, witnesses, survivors, friends, and family members. Here is a vivid, profound, and searing portrait of humanity on a day that changed the course of history and all of our lives.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 is a book exquisitely suited to audio format, a detailed cataloging of hundreds of personal stories, read by actors and culled from 5,000 oral histories conducted and archived around the country.... We hear from first responders, office workers in the twin towers, people traumatized by witnessing falling bodies.... Unlike many works of history, The Only Plane in the Sky, a mountain of indelible anecdotes, does not feel like a novel. It feels, instead, like dozens that ought to be written." (The New York Times Book Review)

Just finished The Only Plane in the Sky. Simply outstanding. From the structure to the voices, from the detail to the intricate stories and relationships I felt I was living the day over again, but with a clear understanding and personal context. Thank you!

Terrific Book...I couldn't put it down

The audiobook version of this piece of history is, quite simply, a masterpiece. Hearing voices weave together the narrative of 9/11 from so many vantage points and heartbreaking personal experiences is difficult listening, to be sure—but necessary listening. That September day is already seared into my memory, but this audiobook burned it even deeper with heart wrenching intimacy. A must listen for all Americans.

This is a book that should be mandatory for all students to read. This was like reliving the day and to hear it told person by person is just amazing. I thank you for those who contributed to it, for those who wrote, and those that lived through the pain of that day who's lives were changed forever. Thank you. gripping and emotional.

A must for all!

I'm really glad I listened to this book rather than read it. My friend recommended it to me but the audio clearly reveals the anxiety, fear, pain, incredulity of the day. I had to focus on the heroes because the innocent people dying was just too much .An incredible book and as a New Yorker bringing back my memory of where I was when I 1st heard of the 1st plane .

Best audiobook ever

The book was amazing. The narrative was gripping. The blending of the many individual accounts was masterful. It was difficult to listen to what these people went through and what they still live with. This will rip your heart out. It was amazing history. It was masterfully assembled. Thank you for this book.

This truly captures the day, the people, the places, the pain, the shock, the sadness, and the facts. Listening to all those voices made it more impactful for me. Thank you for writing this history but bringing it alive through the voices made it so.much more personal. This should be a book kids listen to for history class in the future.

Profound!

You absolutely have to listen to this book. Amazing work by the author and the cast. I could not recommend this book enough. It should be a requirement for schools and anyone who wants to live in the greatest country in the history of the world.

By far the most powerful book live ever experienced. It brings the reader / listener right back to that day. The narration and recordings included in the audio version bring all the stories to life. Never forget.

I was unaware of most of the experiences outlined in this book. This collection should be a part of our national record. Generations to come should read this to understand why we should never forget how we felt on 9/11/01 and how we should strive to behave how we did on 9/12/01.

So many unknown experiences

Amazing and compelling — one of the rare audiobooks that I finished and instantly re-listened to. A must-hear for anyone wishing to come to terms with the horrors (and indeed, the triumphs of spirit) of what happened on 9/11. The previously-unknown details of what people lived through that day will stay with you long after you finish this incredible historical account.

Compelling and amazing - I listened twice!
