Another Good Installment To The Series

In the much-anticipated sequel (to me, anyway) to Orphan X, Evan Smoak is back. Evan had been a part of the secret "Orphan" project, a project that took orphaned kids and made them into hardened assassins, sent in to do the jobs that the Government wanted "off the books'. Following the death of his mentor, Evan instead chose to work pro bono to help those desperately in need of his specialised services. The deal is, you call him, he solves your problem, then you have to give his number to someone else in need.

Following his most recent job of removing a lowlife human trafficker from the world, he realises that there is one more girl out there in the process of being shipped to a buyer. He knows he has to help her, but before he gets too far, he himself is kidnapped by a sociopath, hell bent on staying young and robbing as many people as he can. He identifies Evan through an online transaction and captures him for the purpose of forcing Evan to transfer a large amount of money. No one, except maybe Evan, realises the implications that this one action will bring about.

This is a nail-biting, action-packed thriller that keeps the plot twists coming right up to the last moments. I admit that I started to wonder whether Evan would actually make it out of captivity alive, with the odds so stacked against him, but I should never have underestimated his ingenuity.

Scott Brick was outstanding with the delivery of the story

Gripping!

It kept me up long after my sleep time and had me reach for my earphones whenever I woke up, be that close to getting up time or in the middle of the night. Can't wait to get more of this!

You won't be able to stop listening

Greg Hurwitz is a marvellous author with exceptional talent to paint vivid images if action scenes with words. Scott Brick... Makes it all come alive with his narration.

The build on from the first book in the series, Orphan X is well worth the read in Nowhere Man, and leaves you wanting to down load Hellbent thereafter.

5 star story and narrator!

The only other author;s who have received 5 stars from me are Tom Clancy and Mark Greaney.

Gregg Hurwitz keeps you on the edge of your seat with this fast moving book. I was worried Evan was not going to get out .... but I should have just trusted him. Here is a HUGE set up for the next book and I can't wait!

Scott Brick is exceptional! What a pleasure to listen to him!

Well done all round ..... do not miss this series.

Enjoyable fluff

It's good, but there are some glaringly obvious 'would never do's, for example holding a pine cone out on an outstretched palm for a sniper to shoot it out of your hand - and hoping he didn't take your hand off! Not as good as Victor The Assassin by Tom Wood, but having said that - I can't wait for book 3!

Gripping action, brilliant performance.

A thoroughly gripping story following on nicely from the last book. Not to worry if you haven't read the others, this fills in the important details in an entertaining way.
The action scenes are penned in a gripping style and the narrator's performance is 100% convincing. Highly recommend without reservation!

A gruelling tale

I'm exhausted - not only is Evan's traumatic life keeping me constantly on the edge of my seat but I also have to keep listening until it's finished which means bed is going to be in the morning not at night!

Best of its type

Great thriller with a genuinely interesting and engaging protagonist and supporting cast.Knowingly written, several Deus Ex Machina moments are acknowledged within the story. Very well performed- characters are easy to tell apart without sounding false or strained.

Great Follow Up

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It's a thriller in the Jack Reacher / Jason Bourne style, it's just written really well.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Evan is clearly the reason you return for more, however the supporting cast of villains and acquaintances are well fleshed out. Orphan V feels like she is going to bring more to the party as the series progresses.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

I like the sense of drama he brings, it's a bit slow going sometimes but his Jack and Evan are good. I think my favourite bit of his narration is when Evan answers the phone 'Do you need my help...'

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It's violent rather than emotional.

Any additional comments?

Best thriller I've read for years (after Orphan X).

The most exhaustingly exciting ride ever.

From start to finish this book is packed with excitement. Evan, a Robin Hood killer that shows no empathy towards his well deserved victims, you feel deserves so much more from life for himself.
The narration was excellent and so perfectly balanced to the storyline and characters that I could have happily listened to another 10 hours.

I just hope there is another in the series, although how you can improve on this is going to be a tall order.

Poor sequel

Got boring and is a bit outdated with bond like villain in a villa with henchmen. Superman Evan kills two in his bedroom! Really. Even uses survival doritos to light fire in villa woods to keep warm before escaping. Forgot why he was kept for so long! Silly and not as entertaining as orphan x which had humour. Poor bond/Jason bourne/ jack Bauer bandwagon copy. Shame

Went on and on but finished well

I love the character which is what kept me interested. I think the situation in this book was very overdone it just kept on going and going and going and going, could have been limited to most a chapter or two. Anyway finished well and I'll read the next one and hope it's a little bit more exciting.

Great sequel

Loved it. It was a slower pace than the first, being based predominantly in one location. I enjoyed this as it allowed more depth to be derived from Evan. Definitely a great sequel

I enjoyed it

The second of the of an Xbox, it was an enjoyable continuation. The character and the overall story arc are quite engaging. Sure, it's a bit airport fixity, but still, a bit of fun. I'm looking forward to the next one.
