The audiobook features a bonus conversation between Gregg Hurwitz and #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner, author of the award-winning Detective D. D. Warren novels.

Evan Smoak returns in The Last Orphan, the next New York Times bestselling Orphan X thriller—when everything changes and everything is at risk.

As a child, Evan Smoak was plucked out of a group home, raised and trained as an off-the-books assassin for the government as part of the Orphan program. When he broke with the program and went deep underground, he left with a lot of secrets in his head that the government would do anything to make sure never got out.

When he remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate in their times of trouble, Evan found himself slowly back on the government's radar. Having eliminated most of the Orphans in the program, the government will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat they see in Evan. But Orphan X has always been several steps ahead of his pursuers.

Until he makes one little mistake...

Now the president has him in her control and offers Evan a deal—eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she'll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what's more important—his principles or his life.

When you think it couldn’t get any better Orphan X pulls it off again. This time he performing a mission for the president whom he really doesn’t like but she offers to reinstate his immunity again in which he lost in I believe book 7 maybe 6. Again the narration by Scott Brick is outstanding. I’ve listened to all 8 Orphan X audiobooks and he is the driving force of making X come to life. Thanks for bringing Orphan V back Candy she kicks ass. And I love Joey and Dog oh and I cannot forget Tommy. The ending leave you wanting to know what is going to happen in the next Orphan book. Does X’s dad answer the door in the next book in the series. Can’t wait to find out so Gregg Hurwitz don’t make us wait to long. As I always say it’s worth the credit and if you don’t like it you can alway exchange it. But if you’ve never listened to any of the Orphan audiobooks pick up and get hooked on this series by starting with the first in the series.

I hope this is NOT the last orphan X novel! I love this series, and I fully enjoyed this new addition. Evan Smoak continues to evolve as the MC, and I enjoy Joey, Dog the dog, Candy, and Orphan X's supplier friend (I don't recall his name at the moment). It surprises me a bit that Evan Smoak has evolved as building a network of trusted friends when he started out as a solo operator, but he always had a very human side that I appreciate. Read the books in order to fully benefit from how Evan Smoak evolves and the introduction of characters that continue in later books. Highly recommended!

Another great Orphan X novel!

Gregg Hurwitz's Orphan X series has a wonderful arc through 8 novels. I love these characters, & the plot lines never fail to be exciting, relatable (aside from the beyond-my-muscle-capability hero stuff, of course), & fun. These lively books go by so fast — TOO fast at times, as I’m always left wanting more! Indeed, Scott Brick is an amazing narrator, and he nails these beloved characters in every chapter, on every page. Can't wait for the next one... a year from now!

The latest X is always the best X!

Huge fan of Orphan X. I have to admit that I was drawn to the story after looking for books Scott Brick’s narrate. He’s perfect for Ethan. I stumbled upon the series and now it’s an auto purchase for me. I am so glad that the series is continuing. Evan’s vulnerabilities were palpable. Love to see Candy back. Joey - OMG I love her. Thank you for not killing her. The only thing that made me sad was his relationship with Mia & Peter. Please look at putting them back in the storylines.

What is not to like???

Orphan X keeps changing over each book, and makes some real progress to "staying human" in this 8th episode. The usual characters are also back with their own wit, wisdom and quirks. The Big Baddie this time is very unusual with his intellect and non-violent approach to ruling the world as he sees fit. How much of his world has to come down to satisfy X's sense of justice? Well, listen, enjoy and find out! Scott Brick's narration is brilliant, as always.

Maybe I’m a romantic, but Mia and Peter are Evan’s human side. Didn’t find his capture at the hospital remotely plausible. Was it intended to presage the end for them? I’m just disappointed. Maybe next X. If that storyline disappears so will I.

Missing Mia &Peter

I've immensely enjoyed this series, but this installment was a "meh" for me. the narration was solid, as always, but the story was lacking.
