Story
There's a stranger living in Kimber Hannon's house. He tells the police that he has every right to be there, and he has the paperwork to prove it. But Kimber definitely didn't invite this man to move in. He tells her that he knows something about her, and he wants everyone else to know it too. "I was there. I saw what you did." These words reveal a connection to Kimber's distant past, and dark secrets she'd long ago left buried. This trespasser isn't after anything as simple as her money or her charming Craftsman bungalow.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Publisher's summary
The night before...and the nightmare after.
Rosie and Laura are as different as two sisters can be. One is stable and has the perfect family. The other struggles to break free from her troubled past. When Laura disappears after going on a blind date, Rosie takes matters into her own hands.
But as Rosie begins to search for her sister, her greatest fears come to the surface. Could Laura be more of a danger than the stranger she meets, or is the night before her last night alive?
Told in dual timelines - the night before and the day after - The Night Before is a riveting thriller about family loyalty, obsession, and what happens when the desire for love spins out of control.
Praise for The Night Before:
"Wendy Walker proves her ingenuity with her latest hair-raising chiller. Teeming with taut writing, an abundance of jaw-dropping revelations, and Walker's uncanny insight into the dark side of human nature, The Night Before is irresistible." (Mary Kubica, best-selling author of The Good Girl)
"Pulse-pounding action makes you race to the finish of this addictive thriller.... The writing sings, and the twists deliver." (Liv Constantine, best-selling author of The Last Mrs. Parrish)
"A dazzling hall-of-mirrors thriller: ferociously smart, furiously paced, and - best of all - honest-to-goodness surprising. All hail Wendy Walker." (AJ Finn, number one best-selling author of The Woman in the Window)

AMAZING!
I’m an audible addict. At least 3 books a week. This book really took me for a ride! I could not stop listening. Made all kinds of excuses to keep listening...gotta take dog for walk, I’ll go to the store, all to keep listening. When i finished I would say this is as good as (dare I say this, as this is overly compared) gone girl, if not better. I don’t want to give anything away but this book is very suspenseful !

Pretty good read!
I hadn't read any of the books by this author and I really enjoyed it. I'll be looking into her other books. I wouldn't compare it to a big hit like some of the other psychological thrillers, but it was still pretty good. I'd recommend it. It wasn't the best and the plot wasn't very deep or complex, but I still thought it was pretty good and well told. It did have me guessing and wondering who and what happened throughout quite a bit of the story. Worth the credit in my opinion

Very Disappointing....
Wendy Walker's books before........ were much, much, much, much better than THE NIGHT BEFORE.
If you are seeking a very compelling read that is impossible to put down, Wendy Walker's ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN is the book you want. EMMA IN THE NIGHT is a good choice, too, even though it did not hold a candle to ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN.
Did Wendy Walker really write THE NIGHT BEFORE? I listened to the entire book because I had faith in the author. The plot was lame and I also did not like all of the sequence shifts. The only positive comment I have is that the narration was excellent.
Sooooo disappointing. A total waste of 8 hours and 43 minutes.

Twist worthy
I started this book literally “the night before” today. I couldn’t stop listening. Finished this morning. Other reviewers wrote that it was predictable. I don’t think it so. Author gave you several twists, several possible scenarios. Great narration.

Just ok for me ...
I like this book, but I felt disconnected from the characters, almost like I didn't understand what was going on with Laura or why she was really in therapy ... i didn't get her childhood. But as the story went on, it became more clear there were twists and turns, but some were completely unnecessary.. in the end the book was ok, but not great. One thing i did love though was the psychology throughout the book. I found that very interesting, more interesting than the twists..

The characters and themes are interesting. Creative mystery. One star off for dissastisfying ending and dragged out moments in last third of book. Also, some dialogue is hyperbolic.

Elise has everything under control, until one afternoon, when she walks into a department store and is forced to make a terrible choice: to save one life, she will have to take another.

Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.
