Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A desperate manhunt ensues for a killer who preys upon his victims’ minds—just before he claims their lives—in this blockbuster novel from #1 bestselling author Lisa Gardner.

What do you do when a killer targets the people you love the most? When he knows how to make them vulnerable? When he knows the same about you?

These are the questions that haunt FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy. The police say his daughter’s death was an accident. Quincy will risk everything to learn the truth—and there’s only one person willing to help. Ex-cop Rainie Connor had once been paired professionally—and personally—with the brilliant FBI profiler. He helped her through the darkest days of her life.

Now it’s time for Rainie to return the favor. But this killer is like none these two hard-boiled pros have ever encountered. This twisted psychopath has an insatiable hunger for revenge...and for fear. As the clock ticks down to one unspeakably intimate act of vengeance, the only way Rainie can unmask this killer is to step directly in his murderous path. She will become a murder waiting to happen. She will be . . . the next accident.

Lisa Gardner's FBI Profiler series

The FBI profiler series is an older Lisa Gardner series. The Perfect Husband is not available at Audible, but is available at Amazon as a Kindle ebook. The other books are available at Audible. The series books in order are The Perfect Husband, The Third Victim, The Next Accident, The Killing Hour, Gone, and Say Goodbye. The series main characters are FBI profiler Pierce Quincy, ex-cop Rainie Connor who becomes Quincy's second wife, Quincy's daughter Amanda who appears only in a case that solves her murder, Quincy's other daughter Kimberly who becomes an FBI agent, and Kimberly's husband who works in Atlanta for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The entire FBI Profiler series is great. All books are filled with intensely suspenseful situations and are outstanding thrillers. The next accident is merely representative of the wonderful books in the series It is also a great stand alone novel even if the prior books in the series have not been read.

Highly recommended.

Another good one

Good story line. Kept me interested till the end. Only one part I didn't like; the dream about the baby elephant. Just unnecessary and very hard to listen too - I hate hearing about any animal suffering and this just upset me. I don't see that it added any value to the story and I wanted to stop listening after that. But I forged ahead anyway and was glad I did. One small mention of the baby elephant later in the book (which I skipped over) and that was it - thank goodness!

What happened?

I have purchased many books from Audible. This story was good the recording was not so good. There were at least eight places in the book were the audio repeated. Very annoying and constantly made me think there was something wrong with the book or my phone. Made listening to the story less enjoyable.

So so

Very badly edited. Kate Burton is a great voice but the editor really failed.
The story isn't anything special. Gratuatious gruesome.

Enjoyed this introduction to Quincy, Rainey and Kim. Always enjoy a Lisa Gardner book.

brutal

This is a good story and the narrator is superb.

What concerned me is the amount of violence. For me, the violence did not meet the issue that provoked such a horrific response.

Repeating lines

On every few chapters a couple of sentences are repeated.
Names were pronounced incorrectly at times as well.
Most notably one of the main characters is Rainie and it was mispronounced one time asRonnie.
That added to my frustration of the repeats.

Meh

This was just OK. The ending seemed silly to me - kind of like Scooby Doo. I listened to the first book in the series and this one. I didn’t really like the first one, but I thought that I would give it one more chance. I shouldn’t have.
