Solid

I found it to be solid. Pretty useful. Kind of sounds like it was a recorded presentation.

Most valuable takeaways for me were: get hard facts about their life and behavior, not their opinions or theoretical questions. Avoid talking about your idea/product (at least initially) and instead focus it on learning about their problems and behavior related to your target space. Dig in deeper from the generic answers to get to the specific facts (how do they currently deal with / solve the problem and how much does it cost them). Always plan 3 things you want to learn, and end with an ask (ie. Get a commitment). A customer learning meeting should not “go well” - it should either be successful or not (did you learn new facts and/or get a commitment?)

A must read for any founder

This was a useful book to reference before sales meetings. I’d say the author’s delivery could be a bit more engaging, but he’s not a voice actor and the information os useful so i’d say it gets a pass. Also screw jeff bezos

Good insights but it is missing some info

I really liked the book, I learn many new things I didn't even think about previously when talking to users. Although I think I will need to repeat it in text version, because there many things that the book mention that are better absorbed through text.

I do not give this book 5 stars just because it doesn't talk anything about talking to users through WhatsApp which I have found very powerful, it meets all the criteria of the mom test. WhatsApp interviews are casual and yet very informative, and there is no need to take notes or all the other hassles you can get mistaken when talking to users in person. I expected to learn something new about this interviews but they were missing in the book.

Great book for anyone in whatever line business

Very easy and practical book. really enjoyed Rob narrating it. I've worked in a start up and Rob talks about all the pitfuls and you then realise why things are not moving forward. Great book, highly recommend.

Essential if you’re building something new

I run a team building company and I’m looking at creating new products to do with sustainability, I knew I needed to do customer research and this book was exactly what I needed it. Problem is exactly what he’s talking about and the river is this an easy to digest format. Essential business listening imo.

A game changer in how to approach clients

This book is a genuine game changer and Rob Fitzpatrick is a generous, compelling writer. He shows a lot of honesty and authenticity. He goes through mistakes he has made in asking for feedback and how it is easy to ask the wrong questions. But also, it is easy for those we are asking, to be uncomfortable telling the truth.
This book is a perfect read for anyone developing a new product or service, and wants feedback before investing time and money into creating this.

Great! The book is better than audio book

I wish I read this book a few years ago

This books made me cringe at least a dozens of times. Reading the book was like reading an autobiography. I have done many of the mistakes that the book mentions.

On the surface, it seems that it is about talking to customers and extracting insights that are credible. But once you dig deeper you realize the book is about strategy, validation, thinking clearly and creatively, ego traps, and how to not fall for false positives that can have detrimental effects on you and your startup.

It also provides many practical bits of advice and hacks to find customers and run the customer interview process. I truly wish I had read the book a few years ago.

straight to the point

no BS
